Job description

About Emesent

Emesent is a Brisbane-based global leader specializing in autonomous LiDAR mapping and drone autonomy solutions. Our flagship product, Hovermap, enables autonomous LiDAR mapping in GPS-denied environments, serving Mining and Defence sectors. Recently, we introduced the GX1, a high-performance handheld LiDAR device designed for surveying and built environment applications. Our innovation pipeline includes future hardware products, and our team excels at transforming complex engineering concepts into operational field solutions.

Role Overview

SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology is fundamental to all Emesent products, powering Hovermap's autonomous flight and mapping capabilities without GPS, providing GX1 with outstanding surveying accuracy, and underpinning our market reputation. However, the technology requirements vary by sector — mining demands robustness, architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) seeks precise and visually detailed point clouds, and technological frontiers continuously evolve.

As Senior Product Manager for the SLAM team, you will navigate these diverse priorities, collaborating with world-class SLAM engineers to direct investment, demonstrate our technological lead to the market, and translate advanced research into verifiable, user-valued products. Reporting to the Director of Product, you will work closely with the SLAM engineering manager and the Senior Product Manager of the Data Platform, who manages SLAM-related front-end improvements.

Key Objectives Within 12 Months

  • Develop a comprehensive SLAM technology strategy, informed by user insights, engineering expertise, and market analysis, to guide investment decisions for the next 2-3 years, including areas we will deprioritize.
  • Deliver SLAM enhancements that users can directly experience, unlocking new environments, substantiating accuracy claims, and enabling previously unattainable job functions.
  • Enhance SLAM team productivity by establishing a more rapid and reliable release schedule, ensuring high-quality products reach users faster.
  • Establish measurable and comprehensible SLAM performance benchmarks—accuracy, drift, environmental robustness—against competitors, supporting go-to-market initiatives such as positioning, public claims, and sales enablement.
  • Develop deep expertise in one industry vertical through user engagement, channel partnerships, site visits, data analysis, and prototype testing to influence product roadmap and vertical strategies.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in product management, including full ownership of technically complex products or domains.
  • Proven success collaborating with engineering teams on challenging technical topics, capable of distilling complexity into clear product vision and earning technical credibility.
  • A solid record of data-driven decision-making grounded in user research, product analytics, and market trends.
  • Strong influence and communication skills across roles and levels, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously in dynamic, ambiguous, and fast-paced settings.

We encourage applications from candidates who may not fulfil every criterion but are passionate about the challenges involved.

Preferred but Not Mandatory Experience

  • Background in SLAM technology, robotics, perception, computer vision, or autonomous systems.
  • Experience with deep-tech or hardware products including manufacturing and support processes bridging physical and digital areas.
  • Familiarity with mining, geospatial, or survey industries.

Employee Benefits

  • Work a nine-day fortnight, granting every alternate Friday off.
  • Participation in the Employee Share Option Plan, sharing in company success.
  • Access to substantial learning and development programs, including LinkedIn Learning.
  • Flexible work arrangements and a casual dress code environment.
  • Employee Assistance Program and access to Qoctor online telehealth services.
  • One full additional leave day annually to celebrate your work anniversary.

Company Overview

Founded in 2018 as a CSIRO spin-off, Emesent designs LiDAR mapping and autonomy technologies to serve the toughest environments on Earth. Our portfolio—Hovermap, GX1, and Aura software—captures spatial data in hazardous, GPS-denied, or hard-to-access locations worldwide, catering to mining, surveying, and infrastructure customers. With multi-product lines across hardware, desktop, and cloud platforms, Emesent is at a pivotal growth phase, and this role holds a central place in our technical evolution.
