Role Overview

As a Senior People Business Partner for the Product and Marketing teams, you will collaborate strategically with senior leaders to build and nurture high-impact teams. This role demands comfort with ambiguity and deep expertise in talent management, performance, and organizational effectiveness in a dynamic, innovation-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to align business priorities with actionable people strategies.
  • Advise on organizational design, workforce planning, and leadership growth initiatives.
  • Manage end-to-end talent review activities including succession planning, performance calibrations, promotion cycles, and compensation analysis, ensuring leadership depth and critical capabilities for long-term goals.
  • Coordinate with Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Management & Development, and other HR functions to create a consistent and seamless employee experience.
  • Utilize people analytics to provide leadership with insights into organizational health, capability gaps, leadership effectiveness, and retention concerns, translating data into strategic recommendations that improve outcomes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated success as a People Business Partner supporting senior leaders up to VP level within fast-moving tech companies of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Strong proficiency in core HR disciplines such as performance and talent management, employee relations, organizational development, and compensation, applicable to Product and Marketing contexts.
  • Proven ability to lead comprehensive People programs (talent assessments, calibrations, compensation reviews) with meticulous attention to detail and leveraging people data to discern trends and advise effectively.
  • Experience partnering with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones and familiarity with regional HR processes, particularly in EMEA.
  • Adaptability to navigate change and uncertainty, balancing strategic influence with hands-on implementation, and excellent communication skills for asynchronous and cross-functional collaboration.

Team Environment

The People Team at GitLab focuses on scaling talent, culture, and organizational capabilities within a fully remote global workforce. They collaborate closely with leaders to craft people strategies that foster growth, engagement, and performance. They emphasize data-driven insights, transparent communication, and evolving people practices to support a rapidly growing, high-performance company. Remote work demands clear communication across time zones and some travel to leadership offsites and key meetings.

Compensation and Benefits

For eligible U.S. residents, the base salary range for this role is $115,000 to $194,000 annually, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits. Salary levels are influenced by candidate skills, experience, education, and geographic region. Sales roles have potential incentive pay up to 100% of base salary. GitLab provides benefits supporting health, finance, and well-being, including flexible paid time off, resource groups, equity compensation, employee stock purchase plans, growth and development funds, parental leave, and home office support.

GitLab encourages applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds, recognizing that not all will meet every requirement. The organization is committed to equal opportunity employment and affirmative action, making hiring and advancement decisions solely on merit without regard to protected statuses. Accommodations for disabilities or special needs are available during recruitment upon request.
