Job description
Position Overview
This role delivers leadership to front-line staff and hourly employees, overseeing day-to-day activities such as driver deliveries, trailer loading/unloading, cross docking, and customer service operations. The goal is to execute tasks aligned with company standards for service quality and cost efficiency. The supervisor manages workforce and equipment scheduling directly and is empowered to make disciplinary actions up to written warnings. They are involved in recruitment and engage in customer meetings as required. Responsibilities also include analyzing truck routes by account location, volume, cost, customer needs, and private fleet utilization, and identifying additional private fleet opportunities through daily order reviews.
Work Schedule and Team
The working hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The role supports the Operations Supervisor and supervises up to 40 Class A Drivers.
Key Responsibilities
- Clearly set measurable performance expectations and conduct interviews to recommend hiring decisions for hourly staff.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and other key performance indicators; provide coaching or recognition as appropriate.
- Oversee logistics operations including customer service, freight handling, dispatch processes, and ensure correct documentation and procedure adherence.
- Recommend improved work methods to boost dispatch and warehouse productivity.
- Support training for new associates and provide coverage for operational duties during absences.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of operational systems to ensure compliance and promptly resolve issues.
- Complete necessary documentation and reports accurately and on time.
- Ensure financial policy compliance related to inventory control, returns, damage management, and understand how operational decisions impact profitability.
- Effectively manage staff working hours to control overtime and meet productivity targets.
- Enforce safety protocols through communication, training, feedback, and compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
- Maintain alignment of daily activities with the site's safety strategy.
- Understand and support location-specific customer goals and ensure commitment to helping customers achieve these objectives.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency.
- Plan assignments for effective use of fleet and warehouse equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation by employees.
- Complete additional projects or tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Between 2 to 4 years of related functional experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent mandatory; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Strong skills in both written and verbal communication as well as organizational capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Reliable attendance is essential.
- Must be available for travel as needed, work scheduled shifts, be assigned to the designated location, successfully complete company employment application, background check including employment, education, and criminal history, and satisfactorily pass a drug screening.
Physical Demands
- Ability to read, communicate effectively, remember and analyze information, and comprehend instructions.
- Required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to handle or feel objects frequently.
- Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds (12 kg).
- Vision requirements include close, distant, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual focus adjustments.
