Role overview
The merchandising function at ASOS plays a key role in making sure the business has the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time and in the right places. This role works closely with buying teams to plan ranges, manage stock, and support profit growth. The Senior Merchandiser will be responsible for the WB Swimwear & Lingerie department.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver the department’s planned sales and profit targets through effective planning and in-season trading.
- Review department performance on a regular basis and identify opportunities to improve commercial results.
- Partner with the Buyer to build a commercially strong range while staying aligned with ASOS strategy, department strategy, OTB, options, price, ALB, and global needs.
- Manage intake and OTB through strategic planning and trading to meet business stock requirements.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers.
- Provide clear data analysis and insights to support decision-making and secure support for ideas.
- Meet suppliers and brand partners regularly to communicate key messages and forecast changes.
- Work with the supply base to improve production planning, critical path management, and other operational processes.
- Continuously look for ways to increase intake and profit margin against plan.
- Work with the Buyer to develop short-term and long-term department strategies that improve profitability.
- Adapt department strategy during the season based on actual trading performance.
- Resolve issues in collaboration with Buying and other relevant teams.
- Review KPIs regularly to ensure the BTA remains realistic and flag updates to the team and management.
- Take a global view by sharing opportunities and risks with other departments to help shape wider strategy.
- Identify ways to improve working methods and systems so the team can trade more effectively across global markets.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of AMs and MAs through regular one-to-ones, honest feedback, and an inclusive environment that encourages ideas.
Requirements
- Proven merchandising experience in a fast-moving, global retail environment.
- Strong commercial and creative thinking with the ability to drive department performance.
- Capability to gain support from team members and senior stakeholders for new opportunities.
- Positive attitude toward change and willingness to champion new ways of working.
- Confidence in presenting performance updates and strategy to teams and management.
- Strong understanding of the ASOS customer and customer segments, reflected in decision-making.
- Analytical and commercially minded, using data and insights to spot opportunities and support wider business goals.
- Ability to use market intelligence to inform decisions and deliver the best business outcome.
- Awareness of trends, retail market conditions, and global opportunities.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Inclusive management style with clear direction, role modelling, and team development.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with relevant trading systems.
