Role Overview

The Senior Manager of People Operations will serve as the key operational leader within the People function during a period of rapid growth, overseeing and refining employee lifecycle processes from hiring to separation for a workforce expanding from 325 to over 500 in the next two years. Reporting to the Sr. Director of People Operations, you will manage process design, governance, and continuous enhancement, working alongside a UKG Ready Specialist responsible for the technical system configuration. Your focus will be on operational workflows and standards, ensuring a seamless and scalable People Operations function.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, standardize, and continuously improve global onboarding, offboarding, and overall employee lifecycle workflows for employees and contractors.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, workflows, SOPs, and operational standards that are version-controlled and accessible to preserve institutional knowledge.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for automation in collaboration with the UKG Ready Specialist and cross-functional teams to enhance accuracy, scalability, and reduce manual work.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners, functional leaders, and technical teams to align processes with business needs and ensure consistent execution across the organization.
  • Evaluate and recommend the use of AI and automation solutions within People Operations while maintaining strong governance, privacy, and compliance controls.
  • Design processes to support workforce scaling from 325 up to 500+ employees.
  • Partner with the Payroll & Benefits Manager to ensure accurate, timely data flow and effective internal controls supporting payroll and benefits operations.
  • Assist with benefits renewal cycles, vendor negotiations, and improvements alongside senior leadership.
  • Provide backup escalation support for payroll and benefits issues as needed.
  • Coordinate with Finance and leadership teams on cost transparency and vendor performance reports.
  • Lead the establishment and enforcement of operational process standards across the People Operations team.
  • Offer daily operational leadership, troubleshoot system/process issues, and serve as a decision-maker for edge cases.
  • Act as an escalation point to resolve process and system challenges before they escalate to senior leadership.
  • Develop and maintain cross-training, operational coverage models, and documentation to reduce single points of failure and enhance business continuity.
  • Support company-wide People Operations initiatives including M&A, compensation cycles, workforce reductions, and audits.
  • Build, manage, and maintain People Operations dashboards and reports tracking key performance indicators such as headcount, turnover, onboarding times, and compliance completion.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of EEO-1 reporting, I-9 compliance, and other regulatory filings.
  • Maintain compliance standards for employee records in both electronic and paper formats.
  • Serve as the operational leader in the absence of the Sr. Director to ensure continuity of critical processes and decision-making.
  • Create documented knowledge transfer plans across functions to eliminate key person dependencies.
  • Grow the scope of the People Operations function as the company matures and processes evolve.

Candidate Profile

  • A detail-oriented, systems-driven operator passionate about crafting scalable, precise, and efficient processes.
  • High standards for accuracy and accountability; takes ownership of issues until resolved.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with strong collaborative skills across departments.
  • Thrives on building new processes and structures rather than maintaining existing ones.
  • Excellent communicator able to simplify complex operational matters for various stakeholders.
  • Remains composed under pressure, adept at handling sensitive payroll, compliance, and employee data challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Over seven years' experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or related roles within technology firms.
  • Proven ownership of comprehensive employee lifecycle processes with standardized SOPs.
  • Operational proficiency with enterprise HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, HiBob, ADP, Paylocity), including data quality and compliance responsibility.
  • Experience supporting payroll and benefits operations with internal controls ensuring smooth data workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, IT, Legal, and Security teams on compliance and operational initiatives.
  • Competence in building and managing HR-related reports and dashboards with a focus on data integrity.
  • Familiarity with federal and state HR compliance requirements such as I-9, EEO-1, FMLA, and multi-state employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background working in fast-paced high-growth SaaS or AI-driven companies where documentation often lags pace of change.
  • Experience with HRIS system implementations or migrations involving evaluation, deployment, or transitions.
  • Prior involvement supporting M&A activities from a People Operations perspective, including integrations and restructuring.
  • Some knowledge of UKG Ready system architecture and configuration practices preferred.
  • Experience managing or leading small People Operations teams.
  • HR certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
