About Cards HQ
Cards HQ is a rapidly growing leader in the sports collectibles arena, featuring an expanding network of retail locations coupled with a prominent ecommerce platform, live event operations, major card shows, and digital media channels. As we expand our national footprint, we are committed to developing a world-class finance team dedicated to delivering strategic insights through analytical rigor, operational assessment, and disciplined planning.
Role Overview
The Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will supervise budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, reporting, and business analytics. This strategic position involves close collaboration with various departments, including executive leadership, merchandising, retail, ecommerce, marketing, and inventory planning, to translate financial and operational data into actionable business improvements that support rapid organizational growth and enhance profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage store and unit economics, creating 4-wall profit and loss statements for each location along with cost allocation methods comparing corporate and store financials.
- Implement same-store sales metrics including traffic, conversion rates, average transaction value, and product category distribution.
- Evaluate new store investments covering capital expenditures, pre-opening costs, ramp-up timelines, payback periods, and returns on investment, while monitoring actual performance against projections.
- Construct labor cost models and track payroll expenses relative to sales across store locations.
- Report on inventory metrics such as turns, Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI), sell-through rates, and markdown or aging risks by category and sales channel.
- Collaborate with purchasing and merchandising teams to control inventory spend and maintain disciplined purchasing (open-to-buy).
- Support analyses related to working capital and inventory financing.
- Analyze channel profitability including contribution margins for retail, ecommerce, live breaking events, card shows, and media platforms.
- Optimize pricing strategies, marketing ROI, and customer acquisition economics.
- Lead budgeting cycles, monthly rolling forecasts, and maintain long-term financial planning.
- Prepare 13-week cash flow forecasts and conduct scenario planning to inform decision-making.
- Produce executive monthly reports and quarterly presentations for the board of directors.
- Develop key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards and advance automation of financial reporting processes.
Candidate Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of progressive FP&A experience, with at least 3 years focused on multi-unit retail, restaurants, convenience stores, or other consumer businesses with 10 or more locations.
- Expertise managing store-level (4-wall) profit and loss statements, including understanding of comparable sales, store margin versus corporate contribution, and financial analysis of new store payback.
- Proficient with retail inventory analytics such as inventory turns, GMROI, sell-through, and markdown or aging analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experienced in budgeting and rolling forecasting processes.
- Comfortable navigating data limitations and manual procedures common in fast-growing organizations.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with private equity-backed or founder-led high-growth business models, board reporting, new market/store expansions, knowledge of business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker), ERP or planning system implementation, and a personal interest in sports cards and collectibles.
