Overview

The Senior Manager of eCommerce Strategic Planning leads the development of multi-year business strategies, forecasting products before and during the season, analyzing sales data, managing trading activities, and overseeing inventory for the U.S. eCommerce platform. This role tracks and communicates performance against monthly objectives and facilitates weekly sales reviews to optimize results across key product lines. Clear and timely updates are provided to executives and other stakeholders.

Key Duties

  • Lead the U.S. eCommerce business planning over a multi-year horizon, integrating customer acquisition, retention, and site optimization into the annual operating plan.
  • Create detailed product-level forecasts monthly across all categories, combining data analytics with deep product knowledge to produce accurate projections.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to align product forecasts with monthly profit and loss statements.
  • Utilize market and macroeconomic data to evaluate category success and identify new business opportunities.
  • Coordinate with other business channels to review performance and drive action plans to improve sell-through rates.
  • Guide the planning team in generating in-season sales reports and tools comparing forecasts and historical data.
  • Work closely with Site Operations to develop seasonally appropriate product assortments aligned with commercial events.
  • Manage the entire product lifecycle from forecasting to discontinuation, including handling overstock at the direct-to-consumer eCommerce level.
  • Secure inventory positioning through bulk orders and transfers, monitor sales velocity, and influence promotional tactics.
  • Partner with leadership and merchandising to determine assortment and quantity strategies for limited edition collaborations and accessories balancing collectability and profit.
  • Ensure new products are incorporated into forecast models on schedule to meet purchasing timelines.
  • Conduct weekly reviews of inventory and sales to anticipate stock shortages.
  • Explore exclusive product opportunities by reviewing items not currently ranged in-line for U.S. eCommerce.
  • Develop best practices within planning, collaborating with finance and IT to improve data access and reporting.
  • Lead, develop, and motivate analysts, fostering ongoing learning and teamwork.
  • Communicate yearly buying plans and allocation for eCommerce-exclusive products to regional teams and share performance updates with category leads and the sales team.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in strategic planning with strong use of retail mathematics and analytics for multi-year business planning in fast-moving environments.
  • Experience forecasting product demand at the item level within retail, ideally sporting goods.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including macros, pivot tables, lookup functions, and formatting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving multiple variables in routine settings.
  • Outstanding organizational skills to manage numerous priorities and meet crucial deadlines.
  • Strong data analysis skills to manipulate large datasets and produce actionable reporting tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Proven skill in talent evaluation, mentoring, influencing teams, and innovating processes.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Over eight years of experience in planning, finance, strategy within retail or previous consulting roles.
  • Familiarity with retail and eCommerce KPIs, retail mathematics, and merchandising software.
  • Experience managing a planning team in retail or eCommerce settings.
  • Interest or passion for sports or golf preferred.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment with regular computer use.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as necessary.
  • Light physical demands including moving lightweight materials frequently.
  • Common activities include sitting, standing, bending, and reaching.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected annual base salary range is 135000 to 155000 USD. Additional benefits may include health and wellness programs, performance bonuses, product discounts, holidays, and paid time off in accordance with company policies.
