Job description
Role overview
This position sits within the MPA Academy and focuses on shaping the training workplan as well as leading the rollout of learning initiatives that help MPA staff build knowledge and skills.
Training programmes
- Carry out skills-gap reviews and training needs assessments, then turn the findings into training roadmaps and tailored learning interventions.
- Partner with relevant MPA divisions to build, refresh and maintain the training curriculum so that it stays relevant and current.
- Identify suitable courses aligned to key domain expertise competencies, coordinate with training service providers for course information, and assess submissions based on content, trainer experience and pricing.
- Track developments in maritime learning and development and bring useful best practices into the training portfolio.
- Work with the relevant teams to improve training delivery through methods such as e-learning and to support the creation and rollout of a Learning Management System.
- Promote training programmes, MPAA courses and events through communication channels such as newsletters, brochures, email campaigns and videos.
- Use data and analytics to shape training direction, measure impact and effectiveness, and prepare reports and presentations that support continuous learning.
Stakeholder engagement
- Coordinate with and manage adjunct trainers and training partners, including internal facilitators and external providers, to plan and deliver courses and introduce fresh learning tools and techniques.
- Build partnerships with public agencies, industry partners, schools and Institutes of Higher Learning to explore collaborative opportunities and programme offerings.
Knowledge sharing
- Drive the capture and sharing of institutional knowledge among MPA officers through formats such as case studies, interviews and records of public lectures and talks hosted by the Academy.
Team leadership and collaboration
- Guide and support junior colleagues while helping to maintain a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
- Work closely with teams across the organisation to ensure training efforts are aligned and well integrated.
- Take on additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Candidate profile
The role suits someone with a tertiary qualification and at least 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in coordinating or administering training programmes, as well as organising talks or seminars. Experience in curriculum development is considered an advantage. Strong interpersonal, organisational, analytical and writing abilities are important, and familiarity with the maritime sector is preferred. The successful candidate should also be able to work effectively in teams. The job title will depend on experience.
