Job description

Role Overview

Join a dedicated team delivering impartial and insightful assurance services to the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). The Internal Audit group contributes beyond ensuring compliance, identifying opportunities for process enhancements and proactively managing organizational risks.

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of the Principal Audit team, you will engage with diverse areas within NZDF operations, including military bases, overseas locations, governance, and core administrative systems like finance, travel, and human resources. Reporting directly to the Principal Audit Manager, you will collaborate with senior auditors and external audit partners to execute a strategically aligned internal audit plan, providing highly regarded assurance, advisory, and risk analysis to senior stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of annual internal audit plans.
  • Lead, mentor, and cultivate a strong, cohesive team of auditors.
  • Champion change initiatives within a dynamic, modern internal audit environment.
  • Offer expertise and assist with fraud investigations when necessary.
  • Innovatively solve unique challenges leading to measurable organizational improvements.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with both military and civilian teams across NZDF.

Qualifications and Desired Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business, Finance, or Law.
  • Extensive senior-level internal audit experience preferred.
  • Proven track record managing audit engagements and assurance projects.
  • Strong project management and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with aptitude for interpreting complex data.
  • Excellent communication skills to build and sustain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Practical knowledge of Global Internal Audit Standards and contemporary risk management frameworks.

Additional Information

The salary package ranges from NZD 114,912 to 127,032 annually, inclusive of a 4% superannuation contribution, with compensation based on experience and skills.
