Job description

Role overview

An established international insurance business is hiring a Senior Insurance Accountant for its finance team in Dublin. The position reports to the Dublin Finance Manager and works closely with the UK Finance Manager. It has a strong focus on month-end and year-end close activities, statutory and regulatory reporting, and financial planning for both Irish and UK entities. Around 30% of the role is dedicated to financial analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for important parts of the monthly and annual close process, including preparing and reviewing journal entries and ensuring accounting standards such as IFRS, including IFRS 17, are applied accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet, intercompany, and bank reconciliations; identify issues, resolve differences, and maintain strong internal controls to protect data quality and company assets.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and analysis work, using financial insight to support commercial decisions.
  • Prepare monthly management reporting packs and contribute to improving the quality and usefulness of reporting materials.
  • Support responses to questions from external auditors, internal auditors, tax authorities, and the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Work effectively with a distributed finance team, guide and support junior team members, and help improve processes and controls.
  • Handle additional projects and tasks assigned by the Irish and UK Finance Managers.

Skills and experience

  • You need to be a part-qualified accountant.
  • Prior experience in insurance or a broader financial services environment is required.
  • Solid technical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards, ideally developed in a multinational finance setting.
  • Strong analytical thinking with a proactive, inquisitive approach to solving problems.
  • Good ability to organise work, manage priorities, and meet deadlines, especially during month-end and reporting cycles.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in dealing with stakeholders across different locations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint capability; experience using Oracle general ledger and SmartView is an advantage.

Additional information

This position has a significant financial analysis component and involves close collaboration across Irish and UK finance functions. It also offers exposure to insurance regulatory reporting in a multi-jurisdictional environment and the chance to provide technical support to junior colleagues.
