Job description
About the opportunity
This is a strong career move for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant who wants to join a major, well-known New Zealand organisation and take on a broad finance position with high visibility across the business.
Working alongside senior finance leaders, you will own key areas such as fixed assets, leases, project accounting, tax support, month-end close, and improvements to finance processes.
The position will suit someone who enjoys the technical side of accounting but also values business partnering, stakeholder engagement, and contributing to finance transformation work.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the group-wide fixed asset process.
- Handle lease accounting activities and monthly lease journals in line with NZ IFRS 16.
- Assist with income tax, deferred tax, and provisional tax calculations.
- Manage project accounting from start to finish for capex and opex feasibility initiatives.
- Prepare month-end journals, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting support.
- Work with external auditors during half-year and year-end audits.
- Support statutory reporting, R&D tax credit claims, and revenue accounting processes.
- Partner with technology and finance teams to streamline, automate, and document processes.
- Contribute to finance transformation activities, including future-state process design and FMIS transition work.
- Coach and develop one direct report.
What you’ll bring
You should bring solid financial accounting experience and be comfortable in a role with variety and changing priorities. The role requires confidence in technical accounting, reporting, and reconciliations, along with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the organisation.
Preferred experience and background
- At least 5 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting, or 3+ years focused on asset accounting.
- Hands-on experience with fixed assets, lease accounting, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Exposure to finance systems, reporting projects, or process improvement work.
- A relevant accounting qualification, ideally CA qualified or actively working toward it.
- Experience in a Big 4 environment would be an advantage but is not required.
- Exposure to income tax returns or tax calculations would be helpful.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both finance and non-finance teams.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
What is on offer
This opportunity offers a senior-level finance role with genuine variety, ownership, and visibility. You will join a large finance team in an established New Zealand business and help drive meaningful transformation and process improvement initiatives.
The role combines practical technical accounting with stakeholder engagement, leadership, and ongoing improvement work.
Additional benefits
- Discounted health insurance.
- Free products.
- Discounted corporate and gym memberships.
