Job description
Position Overview
The Chief Accountant role involves overseeing key accounting operations within the Finance Department, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. This position requires comprehensive auditing, reconciliation, and review of financial processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to formulating operational plans, policies, and procedural guidelines for the accounting section.
- Carry out final audits of accounting entries processed by other finance units monthly.
- Examine approval-based adjustment records from other sections to ensure proper recording and processing.
- Reconcile bank statements against accounting ledgers related to income and expenditures.
- Manage monthly and yearly closing of general ledger and payment accounts in alignment with deadlines stipulated by the Dubai Government Department of Finance.
- Review financial details of company contracts in partnership with other departments to verify the accuracy of financial data, contract clauses, and penalty terms for delays.
- Conduct daily inspections of treasury cash reports and bank statements, while monitoring revenue streams, cash inflows, and cheque handling.
- Audit monthly and annual closing procedures of revenue accounts according to government finance department timelines.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by management pertinent to the accounting section's functions.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Master's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Higher Diploma in Accounting or an equivalent qualification is required.
- For a Master's Degree, a minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience is necessary.
- For a Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of 5 years in accounting or a related field is expected.
- For a Higher Diploma, at least 11 years of professional experience in accounting or an equivalent discipline is required.
