About the Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to actively contribute to shaping and communicating Singapore Polytechnic's key narratives. As part of the Communications Department, you will be instrumental in managing media relations, crafting corporate stories, safeguarding brand values, handling issues management, and supporting internal communication efforts. The role involves front-line engagement with media outlets, advising various stakeholders on messaging, and playing a vital role in enhancing SP’s public image and voice.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage media relations by preparing press releases, pitching stories, coordinating interviews, responding to media inquiries, and fostering strong ties with both local and regional media organizations.
- Monitor and analyze news coverage across print, digital, and broadcast platforms to provide daily news summaries to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with academic units and research centres to develop compelling narratives and key messaging that effectively present SP’s achievements and initiatives.
- Support communications during crises and incidents by developing appropriate messaging and keeping stakeholders informed, thereby protecting SP’s reputation during sensitive events.
- Oversee brand management by updating branding materials, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines, advising departments on branding matters, and coordinating with external agencies to produce brand assets as needed.
- Contribute to the creation of SP’s annual report and enhance engagement within the SP community through various internal communication platforms like Campus TVs, SP Vine, and SPOTLIGHT.
Additional Duties
- Assist with major institutional events such as SP Open House and First Steps With SP, supporting outreach efforts.
- Provide project and administrative support, representing the Communications Department in cross-functional committees when called upon.
- Demonstrate flexibility by supporting various communications streams beyond primary responsibilities as required.
Candidate Profile
- A minimum of four years’ experience in media relations, corporate communications, or a related discipline.
- Possess relevant qualifications in communications, marketing, education, business, or related fields.
- Exemplary spoken and written English skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement capabilities to interact professionally with students, parents, educators, and internal teams.
- Sound understanding of Singapore’s media landscape, with additional familiarity of regional media considered advantageous.
- Pre-established relationships with local media outlets are a plus.
- A self-motivated, independent professional who collaborates well and manages multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
- Creative thinker with keen attention to detail and an excellent sense of what constitutes a newsworthy story.
- Adaptable and people-friendly, comfortable functioning across various communication areas.
Additional Information
