Role Overview

The Senior Director of Supply Chain - Systems & Sustainability is a high-level strategic position reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This role encompasses complete responsibility for supply chain operations, including procurement, demand planning, inventory, warehouse, logistics, and customer service. The position emphasizes two critical focus areas: leading the company’s ERP system implementation and ongoing technological modernization, integrating AI and automation; and advancing sustainability across supply chain practices to meet global standards such as B Corp recertification, Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC), SEDEX/SMETA audits, and human rights due diligence requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end supply chain functions, setting strategies aligned with growth and financial goals across purchasing, demand planning, warehousing, logistics, and customer service.
• Manage Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) cycles, including sales tracking, production and inventory planning, and harvest forecasting.
• Convert annual and multi-year forecasts into specific grape procurement plans by variety for upcoming harvest seasons.
• Lead supplier sourcing, vendor selection, contract negotiation balancing cost, quality, delivery, and sustainability performance metrics.
• Coordinate new product development timelines across multiple departments ensuring smooth and timely launches.
• Build, mentor, and supervise a skilled team of managers and analysts to sustain organizational growth and succession planning.
• Lead ERP system governance post-implementation, ensuring data integrity, adoption, upgrades, and continuous improvement aligned with supply chain needs.
• Design supply chain data architectures that support reporting, forecasting, and sustainability tracking requirements.
• Develop business cases, plans, and manage change for supply chain technology advancements, reporting progress to executive leadership.
• Evaluate and implement complementary platforms such as Advanced Planning Systems (APS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and supplier portals.
• Drive deployment of AI and machine learning solutions throughout demand forecasting, production planning, procurement, and inventory optimization processes.
• Champion automation initiatives aimed at reducing manual workflows and enhancing decision-making velocity across the enterprise.
• Maintain a forward-looking perspective on emerging AI and automation technologies suitable for food, beverage, and agricultural supply chains.
• Act as the key liaison with IT to translate supply chain operational needs into technical requirements, co-own technology roadmaps, and collaborate on data governance and system security.
• Lead sustainability and ethical sourcing programs, ensuring compliance with industry certifications including B Lab standards, ROC requirements, SEDEX/SMETA audits, and retailer human rights due diligence like Marks & Spencer's supplier program.
• Develop supplier engagement programs incorporating codes of conduct, audit scheduling, and corrective tracking to embed ethical sourcing in supply chain operations.
• Ensure supply chain data systems capture information needed for third-party ESG verification and public sustainability reporting.
• Represent supply chain in organizational materiality assessments and sustainability strategy discussions.
• Collaborate closely with Finance on budgeting related to costs of goods sold, freight, warehousing, inventory investments, and capital expenditures, including ROI assessments.
• Foster strong cross-departmental relationships with Winemaking, Operations, Finance, Sales, IT, HR, and Sustainability teams.
• Promote data-driven decision-making and leverage technology for enhanced organizational visibility and agility.
• Mentor and develop reporting staff, balancing strategic delegation with involvement in operational execution.
• Design scalable team structures to support growing organizational needs in ESG, systems, and analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or similar fields; MBA preferred.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain, operations, or procurement leadership roles, including a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership with direct responsibility for P&L, budgets, or departmental oversight.
• Proven expertise leading ERP implementations and governance, including at least one full-cycle deployment and multi-year post-launch management.
• Hands-on experience with AI, machine learning, or advanced automation in supply chain processes, with strong ability to communicate complex technical and business concepts.
• Direct partnership experience with IT on technology initiatives as a business owner rather than just a user.
• Experience in sustainability and ESG compliance frameworks such as B Corp, SEDEX/SMETA, HRDD programs; background in food, beverage, or agriculture sectors is strongly favored.
• Demonstrated success operating in manufacturing and warehouse environments; wine, beverage, or agricultural production exposure is advantageous.
• Track record of building and scaling teams amid organizational and technological evolution.

Preferred Credentials

• Certifications in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CPPO, CPPM, CPSM, APICS/CSCP).
• Project management certification such as PMP.
• Training in Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience specifically with Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC), B Corp certification processes, or retailer HRDD audit programs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Primarily office-based work complemented by production and warehouse environment presence; consistent onsite engagement at the Parlier winery is expected.
• Travel requirements are under 10% of the time.
• Role involves extended periods of sitting or standing and frequent computer use.
• Occasional light lifting up to 50 pounds, such as handling wine cases during site walkthroughs.

Compensation

This exempt position offers a base salary ranging from $175,000 to $210,000 annually, with offers typically falling below the maximum figure. Final salary considerations include qualifications, education, experience, and market alignment. The role may also qualify for bonuses, incentives, and participation in tasting room tip pools where applicable.
