Role Overview

The Senior Director of Digital Product and eCommerce will spearhead Whataburger’s digital commerce strategy encompassing web, mobile applications, kiosks, and third-party marketplace platforms. This role focuses on crafting seamless, user-focused ordering journeys that enhance guest satisfaction and drive revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive vision, strategy, and product roadmap for digital commerce and omnichannel fulfillment.
  • Oversee digital platforms including web, mobile app, kiosk, and external marketplaces to ensure consistent and scalable experiences.
  • Drive digital sales growth by increasing conversion rates, repeat order frequency, average transaction size, and overall guest satisfaction.
  • Strategically prioritize investments balancing customer needs, operational execution capabilities, and business impact.
  • Manage digital menus, pricing, catalogs, and ordering fundamentals across all channels.
  • Promote a culture of experimentation, testing, and continuous optimization to maximize digital performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Marketing, Technology, and Design teams to deliver solutions aligned with business realities.
  • Establish key performance indicators, measurement methodologies, and reporting structures for digital initiatives.
  • Translate guest feedback and business objectives into innovative product enhancements.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver products effectively from concept through launch and adoption.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team emphasizing accountability and results delivery.
  • Drive strategic decisions propelling Whataburger’s digital transformation forward.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • More than 10 years of leadership experience in digital product management, eCommerce, or digital commerce sectors.
  • Documented success in crafting and implementing growth-centric digital strategies.
  • Experience managing both first-party and third-party commerce channels and their performance metrics.
  • Proven ability to enhance critical digital business metrics and customer experience outcomes.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage cross-functional teams and influence senior-level stakeholders effectively.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data, insights, and KPIs to guide strategic decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills paired with outstanding leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in quick-service restaurants, retail, hospitality, or other consumer-focused high-volume sectors.
  • Experience scaling digital commerce platforms during rapid growth or organizational change.
  • Familiarity with platform modernization, digital innovation, and omnichannel strategies.
  • Knowledge of digital fulfillment processes, marketplace ecosystems, and customer ordering workflows.
  • Application of human-centered design in product development.
  • Advanced expertise in conversion rate optimization, personalization, and digital customer engagement.
  • Experience leading sizable and geographically distributed teams.

Work Environment and Location

The position is primarily based at the San Antonio Home Office, with on-site presence Monday through Thursday and remote flexibility on Fridays. Collaboration with leadership and various departments is essential. The role demands full-time commitment, occasional extended hours, travel to restaurants and project sites, and candidates must live within commuting distance of San Antonio.
