Role Purpose

The Senior Director, Corporate & Business Development functions as a key strategic leader tasked with advancing organizational growth. This involves designing and implementing corporate strategy, analyzing and managing utility-related transactions, and overseeing enterprise-wide development projects. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate & Business Development, the individual acts as a strategic consultant to senior leadership, employing analytical expertise and market insight to identify and capitalize on opportunities that enhance shareholder value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the creation and ongoing refinement of enterprise strategies alongside executive leaders.
  • Perform market research, competitor evaluations, and strategic planning to pinpoint growth avenues and prioritize organizational objectives.
  • Formulate strategic plans and performance indicators to ensure progress against business goals.
  • Oversee the evaluation and execution of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and partnerships in the utility sector.
  • Lead multidisciplinary due diligence teams, preparing investment proposals for leadership and board review.
  • Manage negotiations, regulatory submissions, integration processes, and synergy realization for transactions.
  • Identify and promote both organic growth and acquisition opportunities.
  • Construct detailed business cases, financial models, and strategic advice for investments and new ventures.
  • Collaborate with operations to convert strategies into actionable plans.
  • Analyze industry trends, regulatory changes, customer demands, competitor landscapes, and economic factors influencing growth.
  • Develop scenario plans and strategic options to guide executive decisions.
  • Advise on long-term planning and capital distribution.
  • Prepare strategic presentations, investment documents, and communications for executive audiences.
  • Support board discussions and executive meetings with comprehensive strategic and development analyses.
  • Guide cross-functional teams in finance, legal, regulatory, operations, IT, HR, and customer relations to implement strategic initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external consultants, investment bankers, advisors, regulators, and industry peers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced professional qualifications such as MBA, CPA, CFA, or comparable credentials.
  • Proven track record in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investments assessment and execution.
  • Experience in crafting enterprise-level strategies and leading complex cross-sector initiatives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulated utilities, infrastructure investment, and regulatory environments.
  • Expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and business case formulation.
  • Strong strategic thought processes combined with broad business insight.
  • Exceptional skills in executive communication and presentation.
  • Demonstrated capacity for influencing senior leadership and achieving consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced negotiation, transaction oversight, and project leadership abilities.
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities within dynamic, highly regulated settings.

Compensation and Additional Information

The salary for this position ranges from $160,000 to $240,000 annually. Employment offers consider role demands, candidate experience, education, skills, and geographic location.
