Job description
Overview
Hume City Council, located in Broadmeadows, Victoria, is a rapidly expanding and culturally diverse council known for placing community and customer focus at the core of all services. The council is seeking a Senior Corporate Communications Lead on a fixed-term, 12-month contract basis. This full-time onsite role reports within the Strategic Communications & Advocacy team and plays a pivotal role in offering trusted strategic communications advice across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic communications leadership and advice to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Mayor, and Councillors.
- Lead corporate, executive, and reputation management communications for Council.
- Develop and implement integrated communication strategies for major organizational priorities and sensitive or high-risk matters.
- Conduct reputational risk assessments and prepare communication mitigation plans.
- Coordinate high-risk media responses and strategic media engagement to elevate the Council's reputation.
- Act as a key communications partner across various portfolios and build strong senior stakeholder relationships.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Communications and Media Advisors fostering a high-performing team culture.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven ability to design and execute integrated communication campaigns in complex or political environments.
- Expertise in offering strategic communication counsel to senior executives and elected officials.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing capabilities.
- Experience managing reputational, political, and organizational risks with sound judgment on escalation.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including preparing messages, briefing notes, speeches, and media materials.
- Adaptability in managing competing priorities and delivering results under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of audience-centric and insight-driven communication methods tailored for diverse communities.
- Leadership in coordinating communication projects across multiple stakeholders and channels.
- Commitment to collaborative work environments and continuous service improvements.
Qualifications & Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related fields with extensive experience in strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.
- Valid driver's license is mandatory.
