Senior Compliance Officer

About the Role

The Department of Justice Queensland is looking for a committed Senior Compliance Officer (AO5) to be part of its Casino Compliance Team at The Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns. This position offers an important chance to enhance the integrity of Queensland’s casino sector by promoting responsible gambling and ensuring adherence to legal standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of liquor and gambling compliance activities including audits, inspections, risk evaluations, and continuous monitoring of compliance.
• Conduct investigations regarding complaints and suspected legal violations related to compliance and licensing, making recommendations to senior officials for enforcement when necessary.
• Interpret and apply legislation, as well as policies and procedures, to foster positive compliance achievements.
• Draft written communications such as advice, warning letters, and detailed investigative reports for supervisory review.
• Prepare legal documentation and appear in court as a witness during legal processes.
• Support the skill development of junior staff and provide constructive feedback to the Principal Compliance Officer about training needs.
• Contribute to the design, rollout, and review of harm minimization programs within the liquor and gambling sectors.
• Collaborate with industry participants, community groups, and other stakeholders to offer guidance and educational support on liquor and gambling regulations.
• Fulfill additional reasonable tasks as assigned by management, maintaining professional standards and organizational goals.

Additional Information

The role requires shift work including evenings, weekends, and public holidays to support compliance efforts across Queensland. Applications will be considered valid for 12 months.
