Senior Business Analyst

Role overview

The organization is looking for a Senior Business Analyst to support a large modernization program focused on data migration, lakehouse development, analytics, and reporting. In this role, you will partner with business teams, migration specialists, developers, and testers to shape reporting needs and help deliver updated Power BI reporting solutions.

What you will do

• Drive business and systems analysis for the golden layer of a data lakehouse solution.
• Define the minimum viable reporting scope, review legacy reports, identify capability gaps, and help prioritize modernization work.
• Collect, interpret, and convert business needs into system, data, migration, and reporting specifications.
• Prepare user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting materials in Azure DevOps.
• Build business models, use cases, conceptual and logical data models, process maps, and data-flow diagrams.
• Set out business rules, non-functional needs, report requirements, screen requirements, and data migration specifications.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of modern Power BI reports built from data warehouse and lakehouse sources.
• Act as the bridge between business stakeholders and the development, migration, reporting, and testing groups.
• Spot and work through issues related to data quality, cleansing, reconciliation, and migration.
• Create test strategies, test cases, test scripts, and report validation scenarios.
• Track defects from discovery through logging, investigation, follow-up, and closure.
• Define KPIs to monitor reporting coverage, migration status, and data quality.
• Support post-migration review, troubleshooting, process improvements, and production support.
• Keep solution documentation current and share knowledge through Azure DevOps Boards, Wiki pages, presentations, and team working sessions.

Required experience and tools

• At least 10 years of experience leading business and systems analysis for complex I&IT solutions.
• Proven ability to assess business issues and document clear requirements across business, system, data, and reporting areas.
• Hands-on experience working in both Agile and Waterfall environments.
• Background supporting data marts, data warehouses, data lakehouses, business intelligence, data analytics, or reporting platforms.
• Experience on large-scale, complex data migration programs.
• Strong experience creating user stories and managing requirements in Azure DevOps.
• Power BI reporting and dashboard requirement definition.
• Working knowledge of data warehouses, data marts, data lakehouses, and golden-layer architecture.
• Ability to write SQL queries and analyze relational data.
• Experience with ETL, data mapping, cleansing, data quality, reconciliation, and issue tracking.
• Exposure to Dynamics 365 CE, Dynamics 365 F&O, or similar CRM/ERP systems.
• Capability in conceptual and logical data modelling.
• Experience with process modelling, data-flow modelling, use-case modelling, and business rule definition.
• Comfort with test planning, test cases, test scripts, defect management, and QA practices.
• Working knowledge of Azure DevOps Boards, Wiki, user stories, acceptance criteria, and Agile delivery.
• Familiarity with ISO, CMMI, or similar quality and delivery standards.

Preferred background

• Experience delivering BI, reporting, warehouse, or lakehouse solutions using Dynamics 365 CE or F&O data.
• Ontario Public Service or wider public-sector experience.
• Understanding of OPS architecture, security, documentation, and I&IT standards.
• Strong skills in gap analysis, critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving.
• Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, written communication, and presentation abilities.
• Ability to balance competing priorities and meet fixed deadlines.
