Senior Accountant (Contract-to-Hire)

Role Summary

The Senior Accountant will lead the in-house accounting function, transitioning from outsourced bookkeeping to an internal, scalable financial operation. Responsibilities include overseeing the complete month-end close for U.S. and Canadian entities, preparing financial statements aligning with U.S. GAAP, managing complex revenue recognition processes, multi-entity consolidations, and establishing strong financial controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing for U.S. and Canadian entities.
• Produce timely and accurate financial statements compliant with U.S. GAAP.
• Manage account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, consolidations, and reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll accounting, expense tracking, fixed assets, and cash reconciliations.
• Administer revenue recognition per ASC 606 standards, covering subscriptions, usage, and enterprise contracts.
• Coordinate tax filings (corporate, sales, payroll) for U.S. and Canada, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Facilitate the transition from outsourced accounting services to the in-house team.
• Enhance accounting workflows, documentation, and internal controls as the company expands.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP with 4–5 years accounting experience.
• Proven ownership of end-to-end month-end close processes.
• Experience in multi-entity accounting including intercompany and consolidation tasks.
• Hands-on knowledge of revenue accounting under ASC 606, especially for SaaS involving subscriptions, usage-based revenue, deferred revenue, and contract assets.
• CPA certification or comparable professional accounting qualification.
• Self-driven with a startup mentality, able to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with financial systems such as QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Rippling, and Google Sheets.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing cross-border tax compliance, particularly U.S.–Canada engagements, and working with external advisors.
• Background in usage-based SaaS, AI, or developer tools companies.
• Understanding AI infrastructure expenditures like cloud hosting, model inference, and consumption-based cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Experience with Stripe Billing and Stripe Revenue Recognition tools.
• Exposure to audits and board-level financial reporting.
• Experience migrating accounting functions from outsourced to internal teams.

Engagement Details and Compensation

This contract role averages about 20 hours per week, with heavier workload around month-end and early month periods, permitting a more flexible schedule during off-peak times. The engagement is planned for one year with potential conversion to full-time based on performance, business requirements, and mutual agreement—although this is not guaranteed. Hourly compensation ranges between $45 and $65 depending on expertise.

Additional Considerations

The contractor must be reliably available for agreed close periods and may work with other non-competing clients if no conflicts or interference occur.
