Job description
About Sygnature Discovery
Sygnature Discovery is a leading scientific organization dedicated to delivering outstanding scientific results for clients who develop groundbreaking medicines, while supporting our team members in contributing to this mission. We are a community of over 700 scientists from more than 50 countries, collaborating across Europe and North America with complete confidentiality and no internal competing programs.
Our achievements over the past two decades include advancing over 60 candidates, filing 250+ patents, and managing more than 200 active projects. We maintain strong client loyalty, with over 90% choosing to continue their partnerships, ranging from innovative biotech companies to large pharmaceutical corporations seeking targeted expertise.
Role Overview
The Protein Science team focuses on designing, expressing, and purifying customized proteins from a diverse array of protein classes for applications such as biochemical screening, biophysics, diagnostics, and biologics drug discovery. The team also includes dedicated experts in structural techniques including X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, and protein NMR, offering collaborative opportunities across multiple scientific disciplines with advanced technologies.
Due to ongoing expansion, we are seeking Scientists and Senior Scientists at our Macclesfield Tytherington site to join the Protein Science team. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic researchers with hands-on experience in protein expression, purification, and structural determination. Additional expertise in protein engineering and biophysical or structural characterization methods is beneficial.
As part of a global contract research organization (CRO), you will work on a wide variety of client projects rather than a single program, collaborating with skilled scientists across the business to solve complex scientific challenges and accelerate the discovery of new medicines.
Responsibilities
- Perform recombinant protein expression using bacterial, insect, and mammalian systems.
- Conduct protein purification and analyze a broad spectrum of targets, including membrane proteins.
- Apply structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography, biomolecular NMR, and CryoEM to support research projects.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of a BSc, MSc, or PhD in Biochemistry or a closely related field.
- Experience in drug discovery within a CRO is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven ability to successfully deliver projects through independent experimental work and effective collaboration with colleagues.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, particularly within protein expression, purification, analysis, and structural biology methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills and a natural scientific curiosity.
Benefits
- 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Private Medical Insurance coverage.
- Life Insurance policy.
- Employee Assistance Program to support wellbeing.
- Enhanced family friendly policies.
- Participation in the Sygnature Group Pension Scheme.
- One paid day per year dedicated to volunteering.
