Job description

Position Overview

The Philipps University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers outstanding teaching to approximately 22,000 students and conducts top-tier research across various scientific disciplines. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, within the Analysis and Differential Geometry research group, invites applications for a full-time Scientific Research Associate position starting October 1, 2026. This is a 6-month fixed-term appointment to cover a qualification position, remunerated at salary group E 13 according to the Hessen state collective agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute actively to teaching duties across Bachelor's, Master's, and teacher education curricula in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Data Science study programs.
  • Engage in scientific research services within the fields of Differential Geometry and Algebraic Topology.

Important Notes

This role is a replacement for a qualification position; the contract duration depends on the absence period of the incumbent and does not guarantee a period aligned with a qualification objective.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed academic degree (Diploma, Master's, or equivalent) in Mathematics.
  • Highly successful doctoral degree (PhD) in Mathematics.
  • Proven experience in independent teaching.
  • Academic publications in Differential Geometry and Algebraic Topology, with particular emphasis on the geometry and topology of Lie group actions on manifolds.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours and options for mobile working.
  • Free use of public transportation in Hesse through the Landesticket.
  • Interdisciplinary training opportunities via the Marburg University Research Academy.

Diversity and Inclusion

The university promotes gender equality and explicitly encourages women to apply; in fields where women are underrepresented, they will receive preferential consideration if equally qualified. As a family-friendly institution, support for balancing family and career is offered, including the possibility of reducing working hours. People with disabilities (according to SGB IX § 2 Abs. 2 and 3) will be given preferential treatment when qualifications are equal.
