Job description

About the Position

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata), a premier autonomous public research university located in Nadia district, West Bengal, invites applications for the role of Scientific Officer focused on mouse-related experimental research. The position supports the new Animal House facility and is initially offered as a 6-month contract with a possibility of extension up to one year subject to fund availability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with mouse-related experimental procedures and provide training to Ph.D. students, animal technicians, and research technicians.
  • Offer support in experimental design and aid in preparing Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) protocols.
  • Assist in daily experimental activities involving small animals.
  • Contribute to grant writing efforts related to the research work.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences from a recognized university or institute.
  • Willingness and ability to work with small animals such as rabbits, rats, and mice without allergies to these animals.
  • Strong knowledge desirable in mouse anatomy, dissection, tissue harvesting, histopathology tissue processing, sectioning, and staining techniques.
  • No age limit for applying; candidates with suitable expertise are encouraged to apply.

Compensation and Contract Details

The position offers a consolidated salary of ₹60,000 per month. The role is contractual, funded under the SyMeC grant, and intended primarily for six months, with potential extension up to a year based on available funding.
