Role Overview
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and capable Science Teacher to join the High School team. The role begins on 01 August 2026.
Core Responsibilities
- Act in line with the school’s ethos and the GEMS standards of excellence.
- Teach the prescribed curriculum with current, accurate subject knowledge.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons, using suitable teaching materials and an effective classroom setup for a range of learning styles.
- Maintain written evidence of planning and preparation when asked, including curriculum records, yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment schedules.
- Follow all GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of individual learners, including late entrants, ESL students, lower-achieving students, and gifted and talented students.
- Assign, correct, assess, record, and report student work and progress, using assessment information to support individual learning needs.
- Use media and classroom technology confidently and effectively.
- Support students’ overall development and well-being, and guide them on academic matters.
- Liaise appropriately with external stakeholders such as Ministry of Education officials when required.
- Take part in appraisal, performance management, and ongoing professional development activities.
- Work with colleagues to develop teaching resources, schemes of work, and pastoral support arrangements.
- Contribute to and, where suitable, lead co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- Maintain positive working relationships by sharing ideas, resources, and experience.
- Supervise student behavior, promote self-discipline, and apply strategies to address disruptive conduct.
- Encourage cultural understanding and a strong enthusiasm for learning.
- Help plan and run school events and functions such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
- Keep parents informed about student progress while maintaining confidentiality and reflecting the GEMS philosophy and core values.
- Be willing to give extra effort beyond normal working hours when the role requires it.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by direct or dotted-line managers/supervisors.
Skills and Experience
- Ability to model the school’s core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.
- B.Ed. or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, along with PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
- Working knowledge of ICT tools in education to support teaching and learning.
- Strong classroom teaching skills with clear commitment to learning outcomes and solid subject expertise.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider school community.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area and age group.
