Job description
Role Overview
GEMS Founders Masdar City in Abu Dhabi is expanding and is seeking a Head of English to join for August 2026. This opportunity suits either an Early Career Teacher looking for international experience or a more seasoned educator ready to advance within a leading global school group.
The school is British Schools Overseas (BSO) accredited and has achieved Outstanding ratings across all standards. This also enables access to the NQT, QTS, and iPGCE pathways through the TES Institute. Working here offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to a distinctive school community aligned to the values of Grow, Achieve, and Flourish.
Teaching with GEMS is presented as a long-term career path rather than simply a teaching role. The organisation offers access to professional development programmes and broad opportunities to progress within a worldwide network of schools, with many leaders having developed their careers internally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the English department and contribute to the school’s wider academic vision.
- Model the school’s values through day-to-day professional practice.
- Deliver high-quality learning and teaching in a secondary school setting.
- Share strong classroom practice and support colleagues through collaboration.
- Bring energy and creativity to both classroom teaching and wider school life.
- Work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues through strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Contribute positively to extracurricular activities and community events.
Candidate Profile
- A bachelor’s degree in English, or a BEd together with a PGCE in English.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in a secondary school.
- A record of effective, high-quality teaching and learning.
- Confidence to inspire, support, and work well with others.
- Ambition to grow professionally in a world-class school environment.
- Willingness to participate actively in the school community beyond the classroom.
Benefits
- Competitive tax-free salary.
- Fully furnished individual accommodation.
- Free schooling.
- Private medical insurance.
- Annual flights to your country of residence.
- End-of-service gratuity.
- Access to the GEMS Rewards app with discounts and offers on flights, hotels, restaurants, retail, and more.
- Free access to professional development programmes.
