Job description

About the Role

The Lunch Bag provides nutritious, hot school meals to children across Ireland and is focused on encouraging healthier habits from an early age. This position is for a School Meals Worker who will support the smooth running of meal service in a school setting and help create a positive lunchtime experience for students. The role is ideally suited to someone who is dependable, upbeat, and comfortable being a visible part of the school day.

Meals are cooked centrally at the company’s base in Nenagh, Tipperary and delivered to schools, where you will take charge of reheating and serving them. You will be the main on-site contact representing the company in the school, handling the final stage of the meal process with care and attention.

Key Duties

  • Place the delivered, pre-packed meals into ovens.
  • Switch on the ovens and heat the food to the required temperature in line with HACCP standards.
  • Remove meals from the ovens and send lunches out to the classrooms.
  • Keep stock at the necessary level throughout the day.
  • Carry out the assigned cleaning routine and follow the work schedule.
  • Record temperatures and cleaning activity accurately.
  • Top up fruit bowls in classrooms as needed.
  • Hand out snacks to classrooms.
  • Complete HACCP and manual handling training, which will be provided.

What the Role Requires

The ideal candidate should be pleasant, reliable, and committed to doing the job well. Since this is a school-based role, you will be representing the business in front of staff and children, so a positive manner and a willingness to work efficiently are important.

You must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 14 kg, and the role may involve using stairs in schools that do not have lift access. You should also be able to work quickly, remain composed when things get busy, and complete tasks carefully.

Experience working with children or food is helpful, but it is not essential. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and full guidance will be given. The main practical requirement is the ability to read English, follow instructions, and heat meals correctly and safely.

Working Pattern and Time Off

This is a part-time position based on 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Work follows the school calendar rather than a year-round schedule, so you will typically work for approximately 183 days each year and have the remaining days off during school holidays.

Pay and Benefits

The hourly wage for this role is €14.65. The company also offers a supportive team environment and a flexible setup that may suit someone returning to work or looking for stable term-time hours. Working in a school setting also means being part of a friendly atmosphere with students and staff.
