Role Overview
The Sales Support Specialist will assist the sales team and customers across the full proposal cycle. The role involves building technical descriptions for products, automation solutions, and related technologies; estimating costs; preparing final submission documents; and acting as a technical point of reference for the assigned area.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the local sales team and customers toward the most suitable and cost-efficient technical solution, and help prepare competitive bids and proposals.
- Provide technical support during meetings, product demonstrations, and commercial discussions, and deliver training on products, solutions, and services where needed.
- Prepare the technical and financial components of offers, including pricing, trading conditions, and related commercial and legal considerations.
- Develop or support technical and commercial proposals based on customer specifications, inputs from the local business unit or feeder factory, and sales directives.
- Take part in project kick-off meetings organized by the project team.
- Estimate the cost of the proposed solution and communicate the cost breakdown to the sales organization.
- Apply risk-management practices, contribute information to the risk review process in line with ABB policy, and participate in risk assessment when required.
- Review customer requirements and competitor offerings using market intelligence and information shared by the sales team.
- Analyze unsuccessful proposals, identify likely reasons for the loss, and recommend actions to improve future outcomes.
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Communication Engineering and at least 8 years of engineering experience in industrial automation. Proposal development and cost estimation experience will be an added advantage.
Strong computer proficiency is expected, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project. The role also requires sound knowledge of automation solutions such as DCS, SCADA, and PLCs, and previous exposure to ABB control systems is beneficial.
Candidates should understand industrial networking, communication protocols, and standards, and should be able to design technical solutions using ABB control system products while meeting customer requirements. Experience in building cost sheets, defining project scope, and analyzing risk is important.
A good understanding of contractual terms and conditions, basic accounting practices, and cost development is needed. Excellent written English is required for preparing technical proposals, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with the Saudi Arabian market, customer standards, and bidding processes is important, and experience with key Saudi customers such as Aramco, SABIC, SWCC, and SEC is preferred. Fluency in English is mandatory, and Arabic is an advantage.
