About the Role
ABB is looking for a Business Support Administrator to support its Critical Power site in Napier, New Zealand. In this position, you will help keep daily operations running smoothly by handling administration, supporting customer interactions, coordinating communications across the site, and contributing to a positive experience for employees, visitors, and clients.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who wants to build a career in business administration within a global engineering and technology organisation. The role offers exposure to a broad mix of functions such as operations, finance, payroll support, communications, and customer service.
This is an onsite position based in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, reporting to the Manufacturing Unit Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver administrative support across the business and take responsibility for assigned processes and tasks.
- Support the Finance team with day-to-day administrative and business assistance as needed.
- Manage internal communications, including site notices, digital and physical notice boards, organisational charts, and general business correspondence.
- Serve as the first contact point for visitors, customers, and employees, ensuring a professional and welcoming experience.
- Handle incoming phone and email enquiries, resolving them where possible and escalating them when necessary.
- Provide confidential administrative coordination and support to different areas of the business.
- Assist with payroll administration by preparing and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly payroll data files.
- Organise travel, accommodation, catering, transport, and other logistics for business events and activities.
- Help coordinate customer visits, factory acceptance tests, training sessions, and other site-based events.
- Support a collaborative and positive workplace through strong service, teamwork, and professionalism.
Candidate Profile
ABB is open to applicants who are early in their career and eager to learn. Extensive experience is not required if you bring the right attitude and a willingness to develop.
- You have recently finished secondary school, a diploma, or a degree in any field, and early-career applicants are welcome.
- You are confident using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; familiarity with SAP is an advantage.
- You communicate clearly in writing and speaking and can interact professionally with colleagues and clients.
- You are motivated, curious, and ready to learn from feedback and new challenges.
- You stay organised, pay attention to detail, and can manage several tasks and deadlines at once.
- You bring a positive, professional attitude and work well with others.
- You hold a current full New Zealand driver’s licence with a clean record.
- Experience in reception, administration, or customer service is helpful but not essential, as on-the-job training is provided.
- Applicants must already have permanent work rights in New Zealand, as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
