Role Overview

The Sales Engineer for Centrifugal Compressors acts as the key commercial and technical liaison at CAPS Australia, engaging customers and managing inquiries while delivering customized solutions spanning the entire Ingersoll Rand centrifugal compressor range, including the TA, NX, MSG, and Centac lines.

This position bridges engineered-to-order (ETO) engineering with aftermarket sales by leveraging deep technical expertise in centrifugal compressors to craft impactful solutions, both aftermarket and new equipment. The objective is to stimulate revenue growth by aligning customer operational needs with comprehensive, OEM-supported offerings and fostering enduring industrial client relationships.

Scope & Applications

Responsibilities cover a wide spectrum of Process & Industrial Air Compression (PAC) applications, supporting new sales and lifecycle aftermarket activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive sales revenue across complete centrifugal compressor packages (TA, NX, MSG, Centac)
  • Offer aftermarket solutions including parts, upgrades, repairs, overhauls, and service agreements
  • Prepare and manage quotations responding to customer inquiries, driving them to successful closures
  • Provide hire and temporary air solutions
  • Identify, qualify, and convert leads within existing and new accounts
  • Create and implement account management strategies for major industrial customers
  • Achieve sales and margin targets along with pipeline conversion goals
  • Continuously seek improvements to boost customer satisfaction and sales effectiveness
  • Serve as primary contact for centrifugal compressor clients, nurturing long-term relationships with operational and maintenance stakeholders
  • Conduct on-site visits to understand workflows and uncover enhancement possibilities
  • Deliver professional presentations and proposal reviews
  • Manage enquiries related to spare parts, tools, generators, and compressors through multi-channel communication
  • Collaborate closely with branch services, operations, and product teams for smooth execution of projects
  • Support scheduling, logistics, and delivery of aftermarket services
  • Provide technical advice to broader sales teams and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure accurate documentation in line with internal policies
  • Use CRM systems effectively to track leads and analyze sales performance

Performance Metrics

  • Revenue and gross margin growth in equipment and aftermarket segments
  • Opportunity pipeline value and conversion rates

  • Growth of installed base and aftermarket market share

Qualifications and Competencies

Demonstrable expertise in centrifugal compressor technologies (preferably TA, NX, MSG, Centac) and comprehensive knowledge of compressor operations, system integration, industrial air and gas usage, plus maintenance and overhaul procedures.

Proven success in technical sales for industrial equipment or compressed air systems, excellent negotiation and proposal skills, and ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to customers.

Internal and External Collaborations

  • Coordinate with National Product Manager – Centrifugal, Branch Manager, Sales, Service teams, Parts, National Sales and Product units, and administration
  • Interact with customers, vendors, and suppliers for quotes and technical support
