Job description
About IKEA
IKEA’s purpose is to improve everyday living for as many people as possible by providing smartly designed, practical home furnishing products at prices that remain accessible. The company operates across Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, with growth plans aimed at introducing more of Sweden to additional markets in the region. It forms part of the Ikano Group and is the only IKEA franchisee owned by the Kamprad family, which founded IKEA.
Beyond retail, the business also develops, owns, and manages shopping centres anchored by IKEA, with plans that support walkable communities through residential, office, and other real estate components. Sustainability is integrated into daily work, and the organization actively supports community initiatives focused on children, women, and the environment.
Role overview
This position is for a showroom sales associate focused on kitchen and home design. The role involves helping customers shape their ideal furniture setup, guiding them through planning and purchase decisions, and ensuring a smooth experience from design through installation.
What you will do
- Bring prior IKEA sales experience, ideally with kitchen furniture and accessories, into day-to-day customer support.
- Use knowledge of floor plans, kitchen site measurements, and IKEA kitchen planning to address layout and installation requirements.
- Apply active selling techniques to match customer needs with suitable IKEA products and solutions.
- Help customers design furniture combinations and recommend products and arrangements that fit their preferences and space.
- Explain the kitchen planning and buying process, including delivery, assembly, installation, and financing options available in store.
- Prepare cost estimates and expected project timelines.
- Handle issues that may come up during the planning or installation stages.
- Use the IKEA Home Planner confidently to support both customers and colleagues in creating plans that meet IKEA planning standards.
- Review kitchen drawings prepared by teammates with strong attention to detail to reduce planning errors.
- Coordinate closely with kitchen service providers so furniture is delivered and installed according to the agreed plan and schedule.
- Support the manager in carrying out commercial plans, campaigns, activities, and promotions for the department.
Profile and requirements
The ideal candidate is interested in sales, home furnishing, and how people live at home. You should have experience planning, designing, and selling furniture in a retail setting, and be comfortable helping customers finalize complex purchases. The role also requires flexibility to work retail shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Work schedule
This is a one-year contract position in a full-time, onsite setting in Singapore.
