Job description

Overview

Join a roadside recovery team in Aberdeen and help drivers get moving again when they run into trouble. In this role, you’ll be the reassuring first point of contact for members, responding to breakdowns in all kinds of weather and helping to resolve issues quickly and safely.

Pay and working pattern

Year one earnings are guaranteed at £40,387, including the location allowance, with top performers able to reach an on-target earning level of up to £60,000. The role is built around an average 40-hour week, and you can select from different shift patterns to better fit your personal and professional needs. Your rest days and the length of each shift will depend on the pattern you choose.

You will start and end your day from home, and your time is paid from the moment you get into the van until you return home. The role also requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays, since breakdown work can happen at any time.

Key duties

As a Roadside Rescue Mechanic, you will work independently across changing locations and conditions while remaining part of a supportive team. You will use technical know-how and strong communication skills to deliver a helpful customer experience and solve problems on the spot with a calm, practical approach.

Requirements

This position calls for an NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification paired with relevant experience. A full category B driving licence is essential, with no more than 6 points. You should also be comfortable using new technology and adaptable to the tools provided for the job.

Benefits

Benefits include the ability to choose your standby hours preferences each year to support your lifestyle and work-life balance, 23 days of annual leave plus holiday buying options, and a Worksave pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 7%. You will also receive free AA breakdown membership from day one, along with a 50% discount for family and friends.

Additional perks include discounts on AA insurance products, access to an employee discount platform with a car salary sacrifice option and savings on healthcare, shopping, holidays, and more, company-funded life assurance, learning and development opportunities, and an Employee Assistance Programme with a 24/7 remote GP service for you and your family.

Additional information

The organisation describes itself as inclusive and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview and will need to complete standard pre-employment checks, including references, credit screening, and criminal record checks. The application process is completed through a short online form.
