Job description
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform built for businesses. It helps millions of companies, from global enterprises to fast-growing startups, accept payments, expand revenue, and create new business opportunities. The company’s mission is to expand the GDP of the internet, and the work involved is aimed at making global commerce more accessible while supporting meaningful impact at scale.
About the Team
The Financial Crimes team helps protect the integrity of Stripe’s platform and supports a safe, trusted financial environment. The team works to stop prohibited parties from using Stripe’s services and to detect activity linked to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. As Stripe grows worldwide, this function becomes increasingly important for reducing risk and supporting regulatory compliance.
Role Overview
In this role, you will help align policies, operations, and workflows with the requirements of Stripe’s financial partners. You will own workflows that affect both internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on identifying and evaluating regulatory, contractual, and partner-related risk. You will also advise operational teams on how to create scalable processes that support service-level commitments, reporting needs, and broader risk controls.
What You’ll Do
- Use sound judgment to make decisions in complex, high-risk situations where the answer is not always straightforward.
- Work within established processes while also challenging assumptions, proposing better ways of working, and balancing customer experience with compliance obligations.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with internal team members, Stripe users, and financial partners.
- Review financial crime risk indicators, carry out data-driven assessments, and watch for suspicious behavior and emerging patterns.
- Support redesign of business processes by defining issues, clarifying requirements, and driving improvements that strengthen efficiency, control, and compliance.
- Help develop and scale workflows across the financial crimes operations ecosystem.
- Spot weaknesses in existing systems, policies, and strategies, then recommend practical improvements to address new and emerging risks in partnership with stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in risk management, compliance, or financial operations.
- Working knowledge of financial crime warning signs, typologies, and how to identify them.
- Hands-on experience implementing process improvements.
- Strong analytical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate internal and external factors and recommend solutions in complex cases.
- Ability to produce clear, concise written materials and presentation content.
- Capacity to identify feedback patterns and use them to improve processes and products.
- Experience creating compliance policies and procedures for payment processing environments.
- Background in merchant risk assessments, transaction monitoring, and risk-based compliance controls.
- Experience managing operational results at scale, including working with vendors, third-party integrations, and automated solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using data analysis tools such as SQL.
- Exposure to transaction monitoring, financial investigations, sanctions, AML, EDD, KYC, or KYB.
- Understanding of payment processing systems and the risks associated with them.
Work Model
This role can be performed from an office or from a remote location that is at least 35 miles (56 kilometers) from a Stripe office. If you are office-assigned, you are expected to spend at least 50% of the month in your local office or with users. Remote employees are expected to work primarily from home, though travel to office gatherings, team meetings, events, and onsite sessions may still be part of the role. Relocation expenses are not covered for remote placement.
Pay and Benefits
The annual base salary range in the United States for this position is $89,000 to $171,800. For applicants outside the United States, the salary range for their location may be shared during the interview process. Depending on level and location, the final offer may fall within a narrower range.
Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, a 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and wellness stipends.
Additional Information
Applicants are encouraged to apply if they meet the minimum requirements. Preferred qualifications are considered a bonus rather than a requirement.
