The team is looking for a Ringa Hapai Service Representative to work from Hamilton Central Library and contribute to a welcoming, supportive environment that encourages learning, autonomy and growth.

- Carry out core library functions such as issuing items, locating titles, processing returns and shelving stock.
- Assist the public with technology for learning, job searching, family connection and general curiosity.
- Support and deliver community programmes and events, including story time, wriggle and rhyme sessions, stop-motion activities, coding classes and work within the Auaha Maker space.
- Help people find hard-to-locate information, genealogy resources, interest groups and heritage-related material.
- Offer reading suggestions and respond to customer queries about what to read next.
Work pattern
The available shift pattern is Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm, Saturday from 9:15am to 1:15pm, and one Sunday in every eight at a larger branch. The position is for 11.5 hours per week.

- Option to buy extra annual leave
- Reimbursement for eye tests and glasses costs
Selection and employment conditions
Applications close on 21/06/2026, and shortlisting may begin before the closing date as applications are received. Candidates will be notified of the outcome by email.
Successful shortlisted candidates should expect an interview, reference checks and a criminal check. If the position is classified as safety sensitive, a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol testing, will also be required. The role is subject to the Children’s Act 2014, so all safety-checking requirements under that legislation must be completed before starting work and may also continue during employment.
The council is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and to building an inclusive workplace where people feel respected and valued. If you need accessibility support during interviews or assessments, you are encouraged to advise the employer in advance.
This vacancy is being recruited directly, and unsolicited agency approaches will not attract any commission, fee or other payment unless the council has specifically engaged a panel agency for support.
