About the Role
Based in Port Pirie, South Australia, this reporting position offers a base annual salary between $84000 and $94000. The role involves spearheading the coverage of breaking news stories throughout regional South Australia, an area that stretches from the Barossa vineyards to the opal fields of Coober Pedy.
The North and West regions of South Australia represent some of the country's most expansive and varied communities, all serviced by a regional ABC bureau. Reporting to the Editor, News Reporters play a critical role in bringing vivid local stories and community characters to audiences both nationally and locally. Daily tasks are diverse, ranging from aerial reporting on natural phenomena to high-profile interviews with government officials discussing significant regional economic matters.
Storytelling methods are dynamic and include live television crossovers, online articles published on a trusted news platform, radio stories, live news bulletins, and social media presentations.
The role includes shift work and weekend duties and is supported by a collaborative team environment that encourages reporters to pursue stories they are passionate about while providing opportunities to lead coverage of major breaking events.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce news content that is accurate, clear, and concise.
- Create and deliver digital news, radio bulletins, interviews, and feature packages.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the regional office and coordinate with state and national news teams for cohesive news output.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a motivated news reporter with a deep understanding of regional issues and events. Key qualities include:
- A strong passion for both gathering and sharing news.
- Good analytical skills and news judgment.
- Proficiency with modern news technology and equipment.
- Demonstrable experience in sourcing news stories and building contacts.
- Exceptional communication abilities.
- A current valid driver’s license.

Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary ranging from $84,000 to $94,000.
