Job description
About the team
Zillow Home Loans sits within Zillow Group’s FinTech organization and is focused on improving the way people finance homes. The team works in a fast-moving, collaborative setting filled with problem-solvers and innovators who are helping modernize the mortgage experience.
Mortgage Loan Officers here can operate in one of two specialized lending models. One is a high-volume, lead-driven, phone-first environment suited to professionals who are strong at quick conversion and building customer relationships at scale. The other is a consultative, market-oriented model centered on developing lasting partnerships with Zillow Preferred Agents.
Both paths support Zillow’s purchase-focused mission and are powered by the company’s technology, brand strength, centralized operations, and leadership support. Depending on your strengths, you may succeed best in a data-driven, responsive workflow or in a relationship-led local market approach.
Role overview
In this position, you will originate purchase mortgage loans for customers coming through Zillow’s ecosystem and guide them from the first conversation through funding. The job is structured around strong service, fast execution, and measurable performance in a highly organized, metrics-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle purchase mortgage loans from application through closing while ensuring full compliance with applicable rules and requirements.
- Turn Zillow-provided purchase opportunities into funded loans through consistent follow-up and clear borrower guidance.
- Develop strong customer relationships and, where relevant, work closely with Zillow Preferred Agents and other local partners.
- Maintain an active pipeline while meeting service standards, productivity goals, and funding targets.
- Use Zillow’s CRM, loan origination systems, and data tools to track pipeline health and support customer engagement.
- Coordinate with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to keep loans moving efficiently.
- Communicate with customers by phone, email, and text to provide a reliable, high-quality experience.
- Stay informed about market conditions, lending products, and regulatory updates so you can recommend suitable financing options.
- Keep licensing active, complete mandatory education, and take part in ongoing professional development.
- Provide and permit the use of voiceprints for operational and compliance purposes.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of mortgage origination experience, with a strong focus on purchase transactions.
- Current NMLS Loan Originator status with state licenses, or experience as a Loan Originator under a federal bank license.
- Completion of the 20-hour CORE Pre-Licensing Education and passing the SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator Test — National Component with Uniform State Content.
- Residence within 75 miles of the Chicago, IL branch.
- Proven ability to originate purchase loans in either a high-volume phone-based sales setting or an agent-referral-driven model.
- Strong customer service mindset with consultative selling ability and solid understanding of the mortgage process.
- Comfort working in a structured environment with clear performance metrics.
- Excellent spoken communication and the ability to establish trust quickly.
- Strong organization, time management, and pipeline management skills.
- Comfort using CRM software, LOS platforms, and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Compensation and benefits
This role includes a competitive base salary plus incentive compensation, with actual amounts depending on experience, performance, and location. Equity awards are also available, based on the same factors. Pay will not fall below the exempt salary threshold required in the employee’s state of residence.
Remote work arrangement
This is a remote role. Remote employees do not have a permanent office location and work from a physical location of their choice, which must be shared with the company. U.S.-based employees may live in any of the 50 states, subject to limited exceptions.
