Job description

Role overview

This part-time Registered Nurse position is based in an onsite long-term care setting. The main focus of the role is to oversee nursing operations throughout the assigned shift and help maintain a consistently high standard of resident care in line with applicable federal, state, and local rules and facility policies. The role may also involve supporting the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing when needed.

Key responsibilities

You will help manage the daily work of the nursing team, support resident care coordination, and contribute to quality, safety, and compliance efforts across the facility. The position includes both leadership and hands-on clinical duties, along with documentation, communication, staff support, and participation in facility processes.

  • Support the Director of Nursing Services with the day-to-day running of the nursing department.
  • Help maintain, update, and apply policies, procedures, manuals, and reference material used by nursing staff.
  • Prepare written and verbal updates for leadership on nursing operations and departmental issues.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to support continuity of care.
  • Take part in quality assurance, surveys/inspections, committee meetings, and care plan or discharge planning activities.
  • Manage admissions, transfers, discharges, incident reporting, and administrative documentation as needed.
  • Supervise staffing levels, assignments, attendance, performance, and compliance with job duties and facility standards.
  • Guide, support, and monitor nurses, nurse aides, and support staff during the shift.
  • Conduct rounds, assess residents, coordinate with physicians and families, and communicate changes in condition promptly.
  • Deliver direct nursing care when required, including monitoring vital signs, collecting specimens, starting IVs, and supporting medication and treatment schedules.
  • Ensure medication administration, treatment documentation, and nursing notes are accurate and complete.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and sanitary nursing areas, resident rooms, and treatment spaces.
  • Contribute to staff training, in-service education, continuing education, infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Follow privacy, confidentiality, security, and incident-reporting requirements at all times.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is a licensed RN who can lead shift-level nursing care in a long-term care environment, work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, and balance administrative responsibility with direct bedside support. Strong judgment, attention to detail, communication skills, and a commitment to resident safety and quality care are essential.

Additional responsibilities and expectations

  • Keep nursing reference materials and procedural manuals current and relevant.
  • Help create a calm, respectful, and supportive environment for residents, families, and staff.
  • Monitor compliance with dress codes, safety practices, hygiene standards, and facility procedures.
  • Report occupational exposure incidents, suspected fraud, unauthorized access, and other policy violations according to facility rules.
  • Ensure unattended computer workstations are logged off or protected according to policy.
  • Participate in drills, infection prevention activities, and safety program development.

Terms and compliance

This role requires adherence to facility policies, resident confidentiality, protected health information safeguards, and information-system security practices. The job description notes that duties may expand to include similar or related tasks that are essential to the position, even if not individually listed here.
