Job description
Role overview
The Regional Manager, West serves as the key business development and relationship leader for FSC certification expansion and certificate retention across the assigned territory.
The position is centered on three outcomes: expanding FSC-certified forest management acreage, bringing more primary processors into FSC Chain of Custody certification, and keeping current forest management and processor certificate holders engaged.
Scope and territory
This is a remote role with travel of up to 30% within the region. Success in the position depends on staying visible in the field and developing trusted connections across forestry and forest products communities.
The territory covers the western region, including California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Day-to-day certification activity and stakeholder engagement are expected to be concentrated mainly in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, and Montana. The region already has an active certification pipeline that can be built upon for further growth and relationship development.
Core responsibilities
The role includes growing Forest Management certification, strengthening retention efforts for current certificate holders, expanding primary processor participation, and supporting strategic engagement across the region.
Performance expectations
Success in this role means increasing FSC-certified forest management acreage, raising primary processor participation in Chain of Custody certification, maintaining a strong pipeline of opportunities, and helping FSC US move toward its goal of 45 million FSC-certified acres by 2028.
Location eligibility
Only U.S. residents located in Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Montana, or Idaho can be considered for this position.
Compensation and deadline
The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Applications must be submitted by July 3, 2026.
Required qualifications
Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Forest Products, Environmental Science, Business, or a closely related field, along with at least eight years of relevant professional experience.
Preferred background
Helpful experience includes graduation from an SAF-accredited forestry program, familiarity with FSC certification systems, established connections in western forestry or forest products, and prior work with landowners, public agencies, tribal forestry programs, family forest owners, or primary processors.
Benefits
The organization operates fully remotely and aligns salaries with nonprofit market conditions and local cost of living. Employee medical and dental coverage is fully paid, with partial coverage available for dependents. Additional benefits include generous paid time off, an employer-matched 401(k), and home office tools and equipment.
Additional notes
The selected candidate may also take on other duties that support the organization’s vision, mission, and values. The role supports grant-funded initiatives and may involve contributing to work plans, budgets, and implementation approaches for new grant opportunities.
