Job description
Role overview
The Regional Manager, West serves as the lead for business growth and partner relationships in the assigned territory, with the goal of expanding FSC certification and keeping existing certificate holders engaged. The position is remote and requires travel of up to 30% within the region.
The geographic scope covers California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Most active certification activity and stakeholder engagement is centered in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, and Montana. The region already has an established certification pipeline that can be built on for continued growth.
Core objectives
- Increase the acreage of FSC-certified forest management
- Expand participation from primary processors in FSC Chain of Custody certification
- Strengthen retention of existing forest management and primary processor certificate holders
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will identify and pursue new opportunities for forest management certification growth through outreach, relationship-building, and pipeline development. You will also work closely with landowners, tribes, forest managers, processors, public agencies, and other stakeholders to support long-term certification expansion.
You will stay in regular contact with current forest management certificate holders to understand their needs, remove barriers to continued certification, and connect them with relevant resources and internal teams. Feedback from certificate holders will need to be relayed to the appropriate FSC US groups.
The position also includes growing primary processor certification by prospecting and cultivating Chain of Custody candidates, building FSC-aligned supply chain connections, and helping identify bottlenecks that slow certification growth. In addition, you will engage with industry associations, procurement professionals, and other forest products stakeholders to advance FSC adoption in the region.
Strategic engagement is another part of the job, including representing FSC US at meetings, conferences, and stakeholder events, collecting market intelligence, supporting grant-funded projects, and contributing to work plans, budgets, and implementation strategies for future grant opportunities. Additional duties may be assigned as needed in support of the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Success measures
- Increase FSC-certified forest management acreage in the region
- Grow participation of primary processors in FSC Chain of Custody certification
- Maintain a strong and active certification pipeline
- Support FSC US’s target of 45 million FSC-certified acres by 2028
Compensation
The salary for this position is USD 90,000 to 110,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Application deadline
Applications must be submitted by July 3, 2026.
Eligibility and location
This opportunity is open only to US residents who are based in Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Montana, or Idaho.
Required qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required in Forestry, Natural Resources, Forest Products, Environmental Science, Business, or a closely related discipline.
You should bring at least eight years of relevant professional experience, a solid grasp of forestry, forest products, or natural resource management, and experience in business development, market development, or client relationship management. The role also calls for strong interpersonal influence, clear communication, solid organization, project management ability, comfort working independently in a remote setting, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
Preferred background
Helpful qualifications include graduation from an SAF-accredited forestry program, familiarity with FSC certification systems, established relationships in western forestry or forest products, and experience working with landowners, public agencies, tribal forestry programs, family forest owners, or primary processors.
Benefits
The organization is fully remote and offers pay that is competitive with comparable nonprofits and adjusted for local cost of living. Employee medical and dental insurance is covered at 100% at no cost, with partial coverage available for dependents. Additional benefits include generous paid time off, employer-matched 401(k) retirement savings, and work-from-home tools and equipment to support a home office.
