Role Overview

Spinifex State College seeks a Recreation Officer to lead engaging recreational, cultural, and wellbeing activities that enrich the lives of boarding students. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide mentorship, leadership, and create safe, inclusive environments that support students' health and personal growth in an educational boarding context.

This educational institution operates across three campuses, serving years 7-9 at the Junior Campus, years 10-12 at the Senior Campus, and housing all boarding students at the Residential Campus. Key Duties

  • Partner with Senior Student Support Worker to plan and implement recreational activities during mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends throughout school terms.
  • Monitor boarding students’ health and wellbeing while providing activities that promote their physical and mental wellness.
  • Ensure activities are approved and risk assessments meet Education Queensland safety standards.
  • Deliver activities while strictly adhering to Workplace Health & Safety regulations, ensuring full supervision for all land-based and water activities.
  • Support school events like swimming carnivals, athletics days, and representative sports training at a regional level.
  • Motivate students to engage in community sports beyond the boarding campus, maintaining a participation database and managing necessary paperwork such as consent and registration forms.
  • Manage equipment inventory including maintenance, stocktaking, installation, and dismantling when assigned to activities.
  • Maintain records of training provided for safe use of specific equipment like gym gear, paddleboards, and bicycles.
  • Collaborate with senior administration to facilitate culminating events such as Graduation and Awards Night.
  • Build and maintain strong positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Carry out additional Student Support Worker duties as delegated during shifts.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possession of a current First Aid certification.
  • Valid Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Driver’s licence is necessary; willingness to obtain a Light Heavy Rigid (LHR) bus licence is preferred.
  • Availability to work varied shifts throughout the week and weekends at a 24-hour boarding facility.
