Recreation Assistant (Sports Official) NF-02

Position Summary and Duties

This role operates under the general supervision of the CYS Services Sports and Fitness Director or Assistant and focuses on officiating various youth sports events including basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, volleyball, and flag football as part of the Youth Sports and Fitness Program. The Recreation Assistant ensures a professional atmosphere, maintains sportsmanship, and manages participant and spectator conduct during events. Duties also involve inspecting sports equipment, ensuring athlete compliance with safety and attire guidelines, directing participants to their designated spots, communicating with other officials, coaches, participants, and facility managers, and maintaining athletic records such as scores.

Employment and Qualification Requirements

• Must provide Direct Deposit and possess a Social Security Card.
• Applicants must fulfill all qualification, eligibility, and background check requirements applicable.
• A one-year probation may be imposed upon employment.
• Candidates must be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment.
• Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation and all pre-employment checks in line with AR 215-3, para.2, including the Crime Control Act, are mandatory.
• A current health assessment and required immunizations, including an annual flu vaccine, are required.
• Physical demands include endurance to stand, walk, run, or squat extensively depending on officiated sport, ability to lift/move items up to 40 pounds occasionally, and adequate vision to perform job functions.

Qualifications and Skills

• Applicants must submit a resume no longer than two pages outlining relevant expertise and competencies.
• Candidates should possess significant knowledge of sport rules demonstrated through formal training or extensive playing/coaching experience.
• Alternatively, candidates may hold a valid officiating license, credential, or certification from a recognized national association.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
• Additional state or local certifications might be required depending on jurisdiction.
