Overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board invites applications for the position of Security Officer at Grange University Hospital in Cwmbrân, Wales. This role involves ensuring the security and safety of patients, staff, visitors, and hospital property, by delivering an attentive and professional security presence. Working Hours and Schedule

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Night shifts from 19:00 to 07:30, working between 2 to 4 shifts weekly on a rotating roster.
  • Work includes weekends and bank holidays as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular foot and vehicle patrols across the hospital premises.
  • Respond swiftly to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents.
  • Prevent and investigate criminal activities and breaches of security.
  • Support clinical teams managing difficult or aggressive behaviors.
  • Assist during fire alarm activations and other emergency procedures.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate incident and security reports.
  • Coordinate with external services such as Police, Fire, and Ambulance personnel.
  • Provide advice and reassurance to patients, staff, and visitors on security concerns.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: Basic education such as GCSE or equivalent.
  • Experience: Prior frontline security experience or relevant transferable skills in client-facing roles.
  • Knowledge from practical training relevant to security, including restraint and breakaway techniques.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor Licence.
  • Training in control, restraint, and physical intervention.
  • Lift evacuation training.
  • Previous healthcare security exposure and knowledge of CCTV, fire alarms, access control systems.
  • Understanding laws pertaining to security industry offenses.
  • Welsh language skills or willingness to develop them (Level 1).

Skills and Attributes

  • Work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Accuracy in record-keeping and proficiency with computers and keyboards.
  • Integrity, discretion, flexibility, confidence, and a customer service mindset.
  • Team-oriented with organizational skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and health and safety principles is advantageous.

Additional Information

The salary for Band 3 posts will be aligned with the NHS Agenda for Change pay awards applicable from April 2026, implemented by August 2026.
