Radiographer Assistant

Role Overview

Bon Secours Hospital Cork is expanding its Diagnostic Imaging Department and seeks a Radiographer Assistant to join their team on a permanent basis. This role plays a vital part in supporting the hospital's mission and values, including Respect, Justice, Compassion, Integrity, Innovation, Quality, and Stewardship, by effectively contributing to the delivery of patient-focused imaging services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to Radiographers in Ultrasound, Specialist Breast Care, and Computed Tomography units as directed.
• Manage preparation of examination lists, deliver contrast agents to wards, and prepare patients ahead of imaging procedures.
• Operate Radiology Information System to manage patient lists and flow efficiently.
• Follow safety protocols and adhere to clinical instructions under Radiographer supervision.
• Observe patients carefully and communicate any concerns promptly to Radiographers.
• Participate in departmental training, meetings, and interdisciplinary observations as arranged.
• Assist with patient mobility, including helping patients dress/undress, transferring, and guiding them to and from imaging departments.
• Clean and maintain ultrasound probes and radiology equipment in line with infection control guidelines.

Additional Duties

• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of examination rooms and changing areas to meet safety and infection control standards.
• Manage stock levels by ordering, receiving, and reporting any faulty equipment per departmental policies.
• Be knowledgeable about and comply with Fire and Health & Safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Support administrative functions such as handling phone calls, message recording, filing, and documentation as required.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations in the department.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum qualification of Leaving Certificate.
• Strong communication skills with flexibility and teamwork spirit.
• Ability to adapt and demonstrate innovative approaches.
• Certification relevant to radiography assistance or prior experience in similar healthcare settings is advantageous.
