Role Overview

The Quantity Surveyor at Tate will assume commercial oversight responsibilities to ensure each project is managed effectively, particularly in budgeting and reporting to secure smooth and cost-efficient project execution per contractual requirements. This position is Dubai-based and involves managing Tate’s data centre installations across the Middle East region, including some travel for client engagements and site inspections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly analyze tender documents to establish exact project needs and identify potential risks.
  • Develop detailed work schedules or quantify Bill of Quantities accurately.
  • Conduct site visits, document observations and images, and coordinate with the Contracts Manager to incorporate findings into tender estimations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to review budgets and explore possibilities to shorten construction timelines.
  • Oversee procurement processes including sub-contract packages, labour-only works, and supplier agreements.
  • Prepare detailed budgets covering labour, equipment, and materials.
  • Generate forecast cost reports comparing actual versus planned expenditures to maintain accurate financial predictions.
  • Manage monthly valuations and invoicing along with supporting documentation for claims and variations.
  • Handle contract variations carefully, ensuring all additional work is documented to secure full revenue recovery.
  • Compile, submit, and negotiate settlement of final accounts.
  • Prepare sub-contract documentation to appoint sub-contractors and finalize their accounts.
  • Participate in pre-contract meetings with sub-contractors alongside the Contracts Manager to verify compliance.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors for prompt resolution of queries.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

Compliance Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to company compliance obligations, policies, and procedures.
  • Report any compliance issues or failures promptly.
  • Engage in mandated training activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying is essential.
  • Prior experience working within the construction sector, ideally involving data centres, hyper-scale projects, oil & gas, or industrial domains.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, client-focused projects with agility and strong commercial insight.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills capable of conveying complex concepts clearly to varied stakeholders.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work autonomously or collaboratively within multidiscipline teams.
  • Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service and representing the company professionally.
  • Acute commercial and financial awareness.
  • Adaptable communication style matched with strong interpersonal capabilities.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks for self and others.
  • Willingness to undertake international travel approximately 15-25% of the time to support projects globally.
