Job description

Overview

This is a contract-based remote opportunity for a QGIS specialist who can independently handle GIS work from raw data intake through to polished map delivery. The role involves working across the full project lifecycle, with an expected weekly commitment of 10 to 40 hours. Compensation is set at $40 to $100 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of QGIS assignments from start to finish, including collecting spatial data, preparing it for use, and producing final map outputs.
  • Keep clear, real-time notes on workflow decisions while carrying out data handling, spatial analysis, and map creation tasks.
  • Structure, clean, and verify varied geospatial datasets so the results remain accurate, consistent, and reliable.
  • Handle map projections, coordinate reference systems, and spatial references so data works smoothly across different outputs and platforms.
  • Apply appropriate styling and symbology to map layers to create clear, professional-looking visualizations.
  • Investigate and resolve issues that come up during QGIS work, while clearly explaining the approach used to solve them.

Requirements

  • Strong practical experience using QGIS to run complete GIS projects independently.
  • A demonstrated history of producing accurate spatial analysis, maps, and other geospatial deliverables in QGIS.
  • Deep knowledge of spatial data types, coordinate systems, projections, and core GIS concepts.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to explain technical choices and workflow logic clearly.
  • Solid abilities in organizing, cleaning, and transforming spatial data within QGIS.
