About the Position
As a Publicist at Prim + Co, you will oversee daily media relations for a variety of client accounts. Your role involves creating and refining media lists, formulating strategic story angles, crafting persuasive pitches, securing earned media coverage, and managing press activities from beginning to end. This position is tailored for those who enjoy connecting impactful stories with relevant audiences and building genuine relationships with journalists and influencers. You will also collaborate closely with clients and the internal Prim team to coordinate press trips, media events, media mailers, award submissions, and innovative programming that aligns with client objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of client accounts, including their business goals, communication priorities, target audiences, and regular deliverables.
- Maintain organized and accurate media lists, coverage reports, client updates, weekly reports, and campaign materials with minimal need for revisions.
- Utilize project management and media tracking tools such as Asana and Muck Rack for managing outreach, reporting, and workflow of media relations.
- Contribute to creative brainstorming by proposing pitch ideas, programming concepts, and campaign strategies.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring attention to detail and clear prioritization.
- Provide support for press trips, media events, influencer initiatives, and client gatherings, including RSVP handling, backgrounder preparation, itinerary planning, transportation coordination, staffing, and onsite support.
- Deliver timely updates, reports, alerts, and leads to clients and internal teams.
- Handle client requests professionally and progressively take on direct client communication responsibilities.
- Participate actively in client meetings and calls by offering updates, ideas, and actionable next steps.
- Lead proactive media relations by pitching, building media lists, coordinating media visits, and following up with outreach efforts.
- Create tailored and thoughtful pitches for journalists, editors, producers, influencers, and content creators.
- Continuously update and enhance strategic media lists that reflect client goals and target markets.
- Conduct ongoing research to discover new media outlets, contributors, and relationship opportunities across newspapers, magazines, broadcast, digital platforms, podcasts, and newsletters.
- Evaluate incoming media and influencer opportunities, including hosting requests, and provide informed recommendations to clients and account leads.
- Assist in securing media involvement for press trips and hosted experiences by recommending suitable attendees aligned with campaign objectives.
- Establish and nurture long-term media and influencer connections on behalf of Prim and clients.
- Serve as the main contact for media-related events, mailers, gifting programs, and press opportunities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior staff regarding account tasks and media relations best practices.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of reports, media lists, updates, and client materials, managing upward professionally as necessary.
- Engage in short- and long-term planning to support client goals, KPIs, and campaign priorities.
- Proactively anticipate account needs and offer solutions to senior team members.
- Collaborate with account leads and agency leadership to uphold high standards in client service and execution.
- Represent Prim at industry events and professional networks to build meaningful relationships and maintain awareness of public relations and media trends.
- Commit to ongoing professional development by attending conferences, webinars, and workshops, and share insights with the broader team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in public relations, preferably within an agency setting.
- Exceptional skills in writing, editing, pitching, and communications.
- Proven track record of crafting media pitches and successfully securing earned media coverage.
- Strong organizational abilities with excellent project management and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, Asana, and Muck Rack platforms.
- Familiarity with social media channels and influencer marketing strategies.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively while maintaining professionalism and responsiveness.
- Collaborative approach, sound judgement, and a proactive attitude.
- Capacity to work a hybrid schedule, including at least one day per week in the office.
