About the Role
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an organization dedicated since 1863 to preserving human dignity and alleviating suffering caused by armed conflicts, invites applications for the role of Protection of Family Links (PFL) Field Officer based in Mogadishu, Somalia.
This position primarily supports the Somalia Red Crescent Society (SRCS) in implementing Restoring Family Links (RFL) programs, with potential involvement in activities related to places of detention. It requires frequent travel across Somalia to engage with communities and local authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify national-level PFL needs and assist in executing the PFL strategic plan.
- Regularly visit SRCS RFL offices throughout Somalia, providing hands-on coaching to officers and volunteers.
- Conduct joint PFL field assessments with SRCS teams or as part of multidisciplinary ICRC teams.
- Perform quality assurance on tracing requests and follow-up operations, delivering technical support to SRCS.
- Ensure timely and consistent information flow and follow-up on individual tracing cases, monitored monthly.
- Support management of the dead activities including logistics, administrative tasks, translation coordination, and budget guidance.
- Establish and maintain local liaisons with stakeholders such as IDP camps, local authorities, NGOs, and relevant agencies on PFL matters.
- Build and sustain networks with local authorities, traditional leaders, humanitarian organizations, and civil society members.
- Attend PFL-related meetings and prepare timely minutes.
- Compile and analyze reports on PFL needs and related activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, political science, or related fields.
- At least four years of professional experience in active humanitarian settings, focusing on protection or human rights; experience with data management is advantageous.
- Proven ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment within a diverse team.
- Capability to operate independently in multicultural contexts.
