Job description

Company Overview

UNI-STRAT Consulting and Business Solutions is a professional services organization that helps clients achieve practical, results-focused outcomes. Its work spans consulting, implementation, and continuous advisory support across areas including operations, compliance, and risk management. The company places a strong emphasis on teamwork, ongoing improvement, and productive relationships with stakeholders. Employees are expected to contribute initiative, maintain high standards, and help foster a workplace culture built on safety, integrity, and performance.

Role Summary

This full-time, on-site position in Kingston is responsible for overseeing day-to-day project activity to make sure health, safety, and security requirements are met, along with applicable laws, regulations, and company procedures. The Project Safety Officer will observe site operations, spot hazards, propose corrective measures, and confirm that those measures are carried out. The role also includes guiding safety talks and toolbox meetings, maintaining safety documents and reports, supporting project-specific safety planning, and working with project leaders, contractors, and other stakeholders to strengthen safety practices across the project team.

Key Duties

  • Monitor project work on a daily basis to ensure compliance with health, safety, security, legal, and company standards.
  • Carry out routine site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and potential hazards.
  • Recommend practical corrective actions and verify that they are implemented effectively.
  • Facilitate safety briefings, toolbox talks, and on-site safety orientations.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain accurate safety records, reports, and related documentation.
  • Assist in creating and putting into action project-specific safety plans.
  • Support investigations into incidents and accidents, including identifying root causes and prevention measures.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve safety concerns.
  • Promote safe work practices and reinforce a strong safety culture across all project teams.

Required Background

The ideal candidate should have solid practical knowledge of health and safety, including occupational health principles, relevant standards, and best practices. Experience with incident and accident investigation is important, as is the ability to prepare incident reports, analyze root causes, and suggest preventive actions. The role calls for experience in delivering safety training, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions for varied project teams. Familiarity with security procedures and site access control in project or construction settings is also needed. Candidates should hold, or be working toward, a relevant certification, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline. Strong reporting, record-keeping, communication, observation, and problem-solving abilities are essential. Background in construction, industrial, or infrastructure projects is beneficial, and knowledge of Kingston or Jamaica-specific regulations is an added advantage.
