Project Ranger - Indigenous Joint Management

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Ranger passionate about conservation to join the Queensland Government in managing the protected estate on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). This opportunity involves contributing to one of Queensland's most important Indigenous Joint Management partnerships with the Quandamooka People.

As Project Ranger, you will oversee and implement a variety of projects including capital works, asset maintenance, fire and pest management, and cultural heritage programs within joint-managed protected areas. Your work will involve close collaboration with the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and staff development to achieve meaningful environmental, cultural and community outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead Project delivery by coordinating multiple initiatives across fire and pest control, asset upkeep, and cultural heritage preservation. This will include using Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) systems for project management to ensure compliance with operational standards and legislation. Additionally, providing technical support, training, and mentoring staff to enhance their competence in QPWS processes will be fundamental.
Effective stakeholder engagement is critical; this role demands building and maintaining strong partnerships particularly with joint management partners for consultation and collaborative decision-making. Balancing strategic planning with practical on-ground implementation, the role requires managing diverse priorities, problem-solving, and promoting continuous improvements.
