About the Role
The World Bank Group seeks a Project Manager to lead key aspects of facilities projects within its International Real Estate division, specifically focusing on the Africa region. This role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and entails managing acquisition, design, and construction of office premises while collaborating with internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders to support the Bank's development mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute project tasks following guidance from the Senior Project Manager and Manager.
- Provide technical assistance related to design and construction of World Bank offices, including new office developments and ongoing projects in Nairobi.
- Develop project plans collaboratively with clients and mobilize necessary resources internally and externally.
- Support lease and purchase negotiations through technical input and review of lease agreements.
- Set project budgets and schedules, overseeing planning, design, and construction with coordination among multiple stakeholders.
- Evaluate alternative properties to ensure suitability for the Bank’s operational needs.
- Direct implementation activities, analyze challenges, and propose effective solutions respecting policies, standards, and resource availability.
- Assist in selection of consultants and contractors for design, supervision, and specialty services.
- Manage preparation of construction documentation and project presentations to management and governance bodies.
- Monitor budgets and timelines, applying corrective measures as necessary to keep projects on track.
- Ensure timely project completion and occupancy in a cost-efficient manner.
- Process vendor requisitions and invoice approvals with requisite documentation.
- Provide timely project reports for clients and senior management.
- Oversee third-party inspections, testing, commissioning, and maintain accurate project records.
- Supervise post-occupancy activities to ensure continued facility functionality.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (MA/MS or M.Eng.) with at least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Proven project management skills; certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are advantageous.
- Strong understanding of building design and construction, including architectural concepts, building systems, sustainability principles, and multiple project delivery methods.
- Familiarity with institutional interior design, corporate workplace standards, security, and fire safety regulations.
- Experience in procurement processes for goods, works, and services.
- International project experience, preferably within developing countries and especially Africa.
- Experience working for international organizations is a plus.
- Fluent written and spoken English required; French language proficiency is beneficial for assignments in Kinshasa/Abidjan.
- Strong negotiation skills, including planning, strategy development, and execution.
