Job description

About Klir

Klir is an Operational Data Hub that integrates water utility programs, data, and decision-making into a single, cohesive system. The platform replaces disparate tools and isolated data sources with a unified overview covering Drinking Water, Wastewater, and Industrial Pretreatment operations. This integration empowers utility teams with enhanced clarity, visibility, and continuity, enabling proactive and confident actions.

Supported by Insight Partners, Bowery Capital, and Spider Capital, Klir ranks among the fastest-expanding firms in the digital water sector.

About Klir Connect (Payments)

Klir Connect is a newly launched business unit within Klir designed to simplify the complex and fragmented process faced by field utilities workers—such as backflow testers, liquid waste haulers, and industrial users—who currently rely on disconnected portals, phone communications, and paperwork to submit compliance reports or pay fees. Instead of replacing existing billing, GIS, or metering systems used by utilities, Klir Connect functions as a connected, branded gateway that consolidates report submissions and fee payments in one convenient portal.

The payment gateway powered by Stripe is operational today with clients like the City of Lemoore, CA processing live backflow testing payments. Initial offerings prioritize backflow testing, with upcoming support planned for Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) and Liquid Waste Hauling (LWH). The broader vision includes marketplace features like provider rebates, one-click applications, and utility approvals.

Location & Work Setup

This role is hybrid, requiring two days per week at the Toronto office. Candidates based in the US who prefer remote work may also be considered, aligning with Klir Connect’s primary North American customer base.

Role Overview

Klir Connect operates as a distinct business line, not merely an extension of the core Klir product. It serves a different set of customers—the field testers and haulers—who interact with payment workflows and compliance submissions. This position is responsible for defining what the product builds day to day, prioritizing features, sequencing, and strategic decisions in collaboration with the incoming VP and founding team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for Klir Connect’s payment workflows, including invoicing and integration with the Klir Core platform.
  • Design seamless end-to-end user flows for report submission, checkout, receipt generation, and confirmation targeted at testers, haulers, and property contacts.
  • Conduct customer discovery with field personnel and utility staff to identify and deliver a superior experience for both sides.
  • Collaborate with engineering and finance teams on Stripe payment gateway integration and implementing a convenience-fee model, while investigating future marketplace features.
  • Lead efforts to scale from a pilot customer to multiple utilities by enabling repeatable rollout processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with customer experience, engineering, sales, and marketing teams to ensure alignment across business units sharing platform data and customers.
  • Implement data governance and telemetry within the product to monitor usage and anticipate issues, enhancing the customer experience.

Required Competencies

  • A strong ability to launch new products in uncertain or emerging markets and define scope proactively.
  • Understanding of payment systems and financial technology, or a rapid ability to acquire knowledge.
  • Ability to balance dual perspectives, addressing both utility organizations’ and individual field users’ needs.
  • Sound judgment when faced with ambiguity, determining when to act, wait, or escalate.
  • Excellent communication skills capable of producing clear documentation, conducting discovery interviews, and briefing leadership efficiently.
  • Fluency in AI applications to optimize support operations and streamline product documentation processes.
  • Curiosity and inquisitiveness in approaching challenges.
  • A bias toward timely execution and continuous product improvement over prolonged analysis.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset that values shared outcomes over individual credit.
  • Experience partnering across product, engineering, and marketing to funnel field insights back into product development.
  • Ensure technical consistency post-sale so delivered solutions match demos.

Preferred Backgrounds

The role is open to individuals from product management, fintech/payments product roles, growth or platform management, or adaptable generalists with a proven record of launching new initiatives amid uncertainty.

Our Commitment to Employees

  • Competitive remuneration and benefits suited to your location to support your well-being.
  • An opportunity to contribute to impactful technology aimed at improving global water affordability and safety.
  • Continuous personal challenges within a leading Y Combinator-supported company.
  • A collaborative workplace that mixes meaningful missions with a fun atmosphere.
  • Strong company values emphasizing honesty, boldness, and solidarity.
  • Supportive leadership focused on your growth through transparent feedback and development opportunities.
  • Exposure to building a new line of business within an established, trusted company.
